The Reds should acquire a new third baseman and move EE to left field for next year. Let's see how he hits with the pressure of third base removed.

I'm in favor of a move for Beltre. Would shore up the righty hitting, improve defense, and EE gets a try in the outfield. Or Votto to left, EE to first base. Either way.

Has anyone discussed whether Walt knows a good manager from a bad one? I don't say this jokingly - we talk all the time about Walt's successful handling of the Cardinals personnel for years and how the Reds job poses a different set of challenges. But who here knows if part of Walt's forte is assessing whether his manager is putting the pegs in the right holes? Can Walt really be watching Dusty and not be thinking a lot of what's discussed in these game threads on a nightly basis.

I haven't seen them right about too many of these young guys yet, have you? Which one hasn't fooled them yet with what they have done? They clearly have fooled Baker since spring. So has Patterson and Bako

I guess Dusty respects BP too much to move him down in the order.

    Wow, that was close.

    Bruce on with a walk.

Nice eye and patience by Bruce. Gagne is pissed, but they were BOTH inside.

Toss Gagne. Arguing balls and strikes! If they weren't in contention would he have gotten tossed?

Barely, but true. I guess it struck midnight and Hairston turned into a pumpkin. A very poor at bat--just like Edwin's.

Another great night for Bruce and Votto. They have combined to go 3-for-7 with a double, homerun, and three walks.

Those are the at-bats by Bruce I love. Even if that pitch is called a strike, it's Bruce recognizing that he wasn't prepared to turn on that ball, and wasn't going to do any good by swinging at it. Great takes, and he got rewarded for it.
