I'm surprised the ump didn't say anything after Volquez jumped up and down on the mound after not getting a called strike on Young.

Re: Reds vs D-Backs 9/13/08 (no Bako or Patterson)

Dunn hits into a 1-2-3 double play.

    After 3, Reds 1, D-Backs 0
    Johnson: 64 pitches, 42 strikes.
    Volquez: 62 pitches, 33 strikes.

Randy Johnson spent the whole inning up or on base. We will see if that affects him.

    1-1 bottom six.

Volquez K's Dunn to begin the 6th inning. That is strikeout #190 on the season for Volquez.

Volquez walks Reynolds with one out and K's Tracy for the second out. Strikeout #7 in the game and #191 on the season.

Montero K's to end the inning. #8 for Volquez and 192nd of the season.

1-1 after six innings. Volquez has thrown 110 pitches so his night is over.

    After 6 innings, Reds 1, D-Backs 1

    Johnson 98 pitches, 66 strikes.
    Volquez 110 pitches, 62 strikes.

Volquez should be done for the night. He has 8 Ks, 5 BBs, 4 hits allowed, and 1 earned run.

Dusty has got to be nuts...he sends Volquez up to hit in a tie game after 110 pitches!~

Volquez with 110 pitches is hitting for himself with a very deep bench. YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME! Dusty REALLY doesn't want to use Roenicke apparently. Either that or Dusty wants him to win 20 games. I swear, he's like a bad father relieving his youth by pushing his kids too hard. UGGGGH!
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Volquez has thrown 110 pitches in six innings and Dusty is letting him bat for himself!?! I can't stand Dusty. What an awful manager.

I cannot believe Volquez is going back out there with 110 pitches.

Is it ok when there are few posters in the thread to just pop in with this?

Edinson would be more likely to get win #17 if Dickerson pinch hit for him. That way, even if the Reds didn't score, his arm won't fall off....and he might get #17 next outing.

I honestly can't believe he's going to send him back out there.

Leave him in to pick up another loss.

    Thanks Dusty
