    September 18th game thread Reds-Cards

    Jerry Hairston Jr. 2b
    Jeff Keppinger ss
    Joey Votto 1b
    Jay Bruce rf
    Jolbert Cabrera lf
    Corey Patterson cf
    Adam Rosales 3b
    Paul Bako c
    Edinson Volquez p

I'd like to have seen Janish in at SS to provide the defensive upgrade.

Volquez has thrown 117+ pitches in three straight starts...it will be interesting to see how he bounces back tonight.

I look for Pujols to have a huge game tonight. He's 0-for-8 in this series so he's long overdue.

Let's send him on his way 0-12

Last time Lohse pitched against the Reds he was ejected for coming up and in to...was it Volquez or Cueto?

What's George Grande doing not calling a Redbird's series? (not that I mind...)

So tonight is the "quiver by the river"

Did the TV crew make anything of renewing the "rivalry"?

They just showed some replays from when it happened... that was about it.

    Miles K's. #194 for Volquez.

I look for Volquez to get lit up in his last three starts. You mix in an increase in innings pitched and ridiculous pitch counts and naturally it's going to eventually catch up to him.

    Volquez grounds out

    Hairston walks

Keppinger double to score Hairston, 3-2 Cards now.

    Schumaker grounds out.

Volquez gets ahead 1-2 on Miles and comes back to walk him. Man. You can't walk weak hitters like that with Pujols on deck.

Pujols walks. Volquez is no where near the strikezone tonight. He looks tired.

I raised this in a ST game thread but I am concerned by the Reds being so brazen in the lineup that they put that many batters up in a row with names starting with a J.
What if St. Louis brought Joel, Josh, or Jason (not that one he's hurt, the other one) out of the pen?

Maybe they are trying for an Astros thing with the Killer B's?
    The Jostling J's?

All they had to do is have Jeremy start, Javy catch and teach Josh to play third and Jerod to play third. That would be the ultimate J lineup.
