Cabrera seeing eye single scores Votto.
Patterson grounds into a doubleplay to end the inning. 4-3 Cardinals after six innings. Hopefully Dusty does the smart thing and pulls Volquez. Yeah Right.
I'm not sure if I've ever seen a hitter makes so many identical looking outs as Patterson has made bouncing out to the right side this year.
The Cardinals defense has given us 3 runs on the night.
That single should have likely been caught by either Izturis or Lopez, but at the very least it could have been knocked down.
Volquez back out there for the 7th inning. Unbelievable.
120 pitches in a ballgame isn't abuse - Reds announcer
Lohse K's. #197 for Volquez.
No, they weren't. The pitch he fanned on in the 2nd AB was down and in. He's taken a lot of strikes tonight. Bad sign when you're taking strikes and swinging at balls. He's just been real inconsistent.Well they were all strikes
This is the Dusty I have a problem with. Abuse is one thing. A complete unwillingness to simply play it safe when the game is meaningless is another. Perhaps abuse is the wrong word - the right one is neglect.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.
When a pitcher's elbow or shoulder starts barking its not the fault of the manager or pitching coach because of abuse - Reds announcers agree on this comment. Seriously, they said that.
Izturis lines out.
Volquez through 7 innings on 113 pitches. Reds trail 4-3 after six and a half....

Schumaker walks for the third time tonight. Miles lines out to end the inning.
7 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 6 BB, 5 K, 113 pitches.
That's the second straight start he's walked six batters. That's a sign of a tired pitcher.
