I swear I hadn't seen anything before posting that. Dusty is just that transparent.
Dusty allowed his ace SP to throw more than 120 pitches with the explicit intent of increasing his chances of accruing a meaningless stat. Meanwhile, said SP struggled with a mechanical flaw most of the year which made him extremely ineffective for long stretches. Said flaw manifested after he came back on short rest after throwing 60+ pitches in relief.
Now, I can't prove causality here any more than anybody else. And I'm not inside Dusty's head. But when people make fun of us "stat types", I can't help but wonder who would benefit most from getting their head out of the stat book and watching a game from time to time.

Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.
