Ross was only 3-for-5 with two homeruns and a double in his career vs Cordero before that strikeout.

While I'm getting ahead of myself here, a save by Cordero will give him a 33/39 this year, the same as Weathers had last year.
And Weathers this year vs. the 8th inning last year?

    Priceless.

That the Billy Beane theory. At the end of the day regardless of talent the save percentage doesn't vary too much.

Votto's 22 homers are the most by a Reds rookie since Frank Robinson hit 38 in 1956.

Let me be the first to say, let's trade him for Milt Pappas....

You stand a chance of having Patterson and Hairston platooning next year, along with Bako and Hanigan.

But, as someone pointed out, obtaining Cordero has stengthen our whole bullpen. While our 9th inning save percentage has remained constant, we aren't blowing games in the 8th innings like we did last year.

When we lead after 7, we have lost only a handfull of games this year.

    That wouldn't surprise me either.

Re: September 22 Reds/Marlins game thread

A bullpen 10 deep and Dusty feels the need to push Harang to 122 pitches and have Weathers set up. Again, maybe it's not "abuse", but it is a risk not worth taking. There's every reason in the world to give some meaningful innings to Roenicke, Herrera, and Masset. I guarantee that if Dusty was asked about letting Harang pitch the 7th, the phrase "get him a win" would be said. Misplaced priorities.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

I could see Bako coming back next year, but strictly as a backup to Hanigan. If Hanigan and Bako make up the catching corps next year, then Hanigan will clearly be the #1.

Would you trade Votto for Don Drysdale, Orel Hershiser, Catfish Hunter or Vida Blue?

I've never understood the similarity ratings at baseball-reference.com.

Bringing Paul Bako back next year will be indication the Reds aren't serious about winning. Paul Bako is about as worthless player as you can find.
