Volquez was laughing after that homer, as if to say "how did that get out of the park?" Some mighty short and low fences in the NL Central.

Janish is definitely a AAA hitter.

Janish is definitely not a major league hitter but I love that Dusty started him tonight with a groundball pitcher starting.

I thought the strikeouts would end when Dunn and Griffey were traded .

Seriously - that was almost a pop up. That left field Minute Maid porch is a delicious target for fly ball guys.

This ballpark is funny. You can hit a routine flyball to left field for a home run and hit a 425 foot bomb to center field for a flyout.

Astros announcers discussing the likelihood that Hairston is more likely to be the .255 hitter he was in 2500+ AB prior to the 2008 season than the .330 hitter he's been in a few hundred AB this year. Imagine that, announcers who understand small samples sizes.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Pence pops out and Wigginton doubles on Volquez's 4th best pitch. Why? Stick to what works.

Volquez, even with all the innings, is throwing gas right now. Three out. 2-1 Reds after two.

One good sign is the way the team is playing right now. In 2006 and 2007, they had losing records in September, but this year they are 12-7 and will clinch a winning September 2008 with a win tonight. Baby steps.

Keppinger lines a single to CF to open the third inning.
