    Excellent third inning by Bailey.

Pirates' 3rd: Wilson L6. Jaramillo K on an off speed pitch. McCutchen K. (15 pitches, 10 strikes). That's probably it for Bailey. Excellent outing. 3 IP, 1 hit, 1 walk, 4 strikeouts.

    Homer: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K, 4 GO/1 FO

Wow, that's phenomenal for Homer. Maybe something finally clicked this offseason?!

Quantum leap in effectiveness for Homer to start this spring. I still am rooting for him to go to AAA and dominate before a mid-season call-up, but this is very encouraging. I hope we get some more chatter from the writers about how his stuff looks (as opposed to him being nicer to them this spring).

Maybe his legs feel good for the first time in a long time?

So far for Bailey this spring:
    4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K

    I guess that's a decent start.

I wonder what kind of shortstop the Reds could get if they did a trade involving Arroyo.

I am tickled to death with it, and I am sure that Bailey and everyone is.

    From Fay:

What impressed me about Bailey so far that he's been able to spot his fastball. I believe all four Ks today came on offspeed pitches set up the by the fastball.

I'd agree that Bailey and Owings are ahead right now. It's early, but with so many people in the mix, you can't afford bad outings.

Reds appear to have pushed across a run in the 4th with a Phillips double followed by a Gomes single.

Reds' 4th: Phillips doubles. Encarnacion F8, Phillips to third. Gomes SF7. Nix singles. Nix CS 2-6.

    1-0 Reds after 3 1/2.

    Lincoln is pitching the 4th.

Perhaps but it could also be that he's finally realized that he's got a decent shot to pitch and be successful in the big leagues and that it's about time he really showed what he can do when he pitches instead of throws to batters.

If his slider is looking like it was at the end of last year.... he can be really good this year if he can throw his fastball for strikes.

    Lincoln threw a 1-2-3 4th inning. 1-0 Reds after 4.

Wouldn't that be sweet. It would be nice to have to make adjustments seeing good pitching, they may not have the offense, but, it is possible that they can have very good pitching this year. That would be an exciting change.
