You'd think the Reds would. It'd get another guy some more PA's.

Dusty said last week it was time for the pitchers to get the opportunity to bat since that's how the game's played in the NL.

Volquez threw a scoreless first inning.

    Bottom 1:

Dickerson singled with one out, stole second and scored on an Adam Rosales two out RBI single. Rosales stole second and was stranded. 1-0 Reds after one inning.

Is Volquez throwing a lot of pitches? Hopefully not and his line looks pretty good so far.

Alex Gonzalez singled in his first atbat today and then was replaced by Zach Cozart in the top of the third inning. Hopefully everything is OK with Gonzalez...

Just noticed that Gonzalez was replaced by Cozart early in the game. Meaning. . . . ?

Re: 3/23/09 Reds vs Blue Jays

Looks like Dusty is planning to bat Dickerson 2nd when he's in the lineup and Gonzalez 2nd when Dickerson is out. Though that could change pending the reason he was pulled...
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

    Gonzalez leaves game
Posted by JohnFay at 3/23/2009 1:51 PM EDT on Cincinnati.com

Alex Gonzalez left the game after beating out an infield single. He then went to second and was erased on fielder's choice. I'll update when I know more.

Gonzalez, of course, missed all of last year with micro-fracture of his left knee. He's been playing seven innings every other day.

I hope Gonzalez is all right.

Seems like Volquez is in midseason form.

This team needs to deal for a SS. I like OBM's idea of Masset for Andino.

Strained right hammy for Gonzalez. I started a thread over on ORG.
