It's absolutely pathetic that people get paid to make such baseball decisions.
There are 10 outfielders in the the Reds minor league system that are better than this guy.
And it's not really close.
It started out as a feel goody story. Enough already. Quit insulting the intelligence of the Reds fan. Believe it or not, most of them are not idiots.
The team that plays in Arizona is a fraud (at least it was dead on arrival when the Reds caught them).
The Reds manhandled them as they should've. The Reds are going to be inconsistent (assuming they are a true talent .500 team). Then take Votto out of the lineup and it's asking a lot. Right now they are two starters down (Votto and EE).

Yea, Willy Taveras is the only player in the world swinging at Lidge's slider. A good slider makes a lot of major leaguers look like free swinging hacks a lot of the time.
The Reds just aren't strong enough offensively (especially without Votto who has carried them with the exception of the Arizona series) to win games like this one. A game they should have won. It doesn't help when you see Alex Gonzales and Darnell McDonald in the lineup either. What in the name of all that's holy the Reds see in McDonald is baffling. Sure, he had a good spring, but so do many players and astute baseball people should know that sometimes it's fool's gold. Unfortunately, the Reds have a problem with that. So the Reds get 7 hits and four of them came from two people -- Phillips and Hernandez. It results in three runs with the two black holes in the lineup and it only takes a slightly sub-par performance from one of our starters and we're losing. I expect more games like this as the season rolls along. Our starters cannot be perfect. Witness the last starts of Harang, Volquez, Arroyo, and Cueto. Harang was left in too long and with a short lead, the team was doomed. Volquez got hurt, but wasn't sharp and that led to 16 innings in which the Reds didn't score after regulation. Arroyo pitched well, but with no offense, we lose. Cueto had one bad inning, but that's all it takes with this team. Shut 'em out or lose.
And we (or Dusty) still has the guts to play Darnell McDonald. Maddening. Will they send him down? Only as a last resort. Just like Bray and Wilson were going to be what turned this team around. Remember that? Poor personnel decisions have been the benchmark of the Reds and it makes no difference who the manager, GM, or owner is. It's always the same.

Dead on.
Lets see, the Phillies are a great offensive team as many here say, and they scored 4 runs off of Cueto. The Reds, a HORRIBLE offensive team as many here say, score 3 runs off of Hamels and have several opportunities down the stretch to score more.
Come on guys, get realistic. We just faced Jake Peavy & Cole Hamels back to back. The Rangers are going to struggle to score runs off those 2 guys. We're missing two of our biggest bats in the lineup with Votto & Edwin out. But since we had McDonald start, this team's suddenly a joke. I agree that he should've been gone a while ago, but he's here...and every player on the team will get the occasional start. I really don't see why people have a problem with that.
As for Taveras, yes, he's struggled lately. He's been VERY solid all year long until the start of the San Diego series. He's had 4 poor games in a row...and guess what, we've LOST 4 games in a row. Say what you want about Taveras, but it seems to me that we go as Willy goes. He IS a very important piece to our offense. Looking at the AB versus Lidge isn't really a good spot to look at. Most players look bad against Lidge. But he's struggling nonetheless.
The sweep to the Padres, while frustrating, didn't bother me as much as some here. Simply put, the Padres are a much better team at home and we were due for a bad series on the road. There's no way we were going to sustain that kind of success on the road. I don't think we're a .500 team (I think we're better than that), but we ARE a young team...and we'll have our ups and downs. Right now, getting healthy is the most important first step.
