    Um...yes.

He's on the 40 man. He can hit ml pitching right now. They need the stick at that position with Votto gone. He's already 22, it's not like he's a babe in the woods.

I wouldn't dump Owings over this, let him work through it.

Lincoln threw pretty well last night, maybe he'll come back. With the two year deal I don't think he's going anywhere.

If Owings continues to struggle, then Maloney takes his spot. Next time Reds need a replacement starter, it should be Maloney. Next replacement reliever should be Roenicke or Manuel.
    Fair enough.

He's not even in AA yet....I'm all for that promotion, and hopefully putting him on pace to come up in September (or late summer if the opportunity opens itself)

I wouldn't be opposed to giving Maloney a shot but I get visions of Phil Dumatrait when I think of him. I have no observations or numbers to suggest that but it just pops into my head.

As for Alonso, he needs to grow his game and the Bigs isn't the place to do it.

Gallardo went 126 5 days ago....I'm guessing he's not going to be around for anywhere near that today.....he's at 70 through 3 2/3 right now.

Owings Ks. Number 9. Gonzalez (Double) on 2B with 2 out.

Dickerson walks. If Hairston can do something, this could still be a game.

That's their fault. If they had started him in AA, he would be OPSing .875 or better there too. He's just a natural hitter. He can help this team. Now. And they need his help. Now.

This season can slip away in an eye-blink this next 15 days with Votto gone, against this particular competition.

Maloney and Dumatrait both tall lefties. But I think the comparison ends there.

Dumatrait always had trouble with high walk totals. Maloney hardly ever walks anyone.

And Dumatrait got his AAA ERA down in the mid-3 range. Maloney is at 2.33 this year, and has been far more dominant at this level than Dumatrait was.

My guess, based on the public reports and following his progress, is that Maloney could be a left handed Bronson Arroyo type pitcher. If he can get his fastball up to respectable levels, say 88-90 on a regular basis, he can be successful using an assortment of pitches and command. If his fastball is mid-80s, and hitters don't have to worry about it, he will get tagged.
