I would post this in the other music thread, but it doesn't exactly apply there, since the music isn't released yet and I certainly havent yet listened to it.

But, for those of you who are followers of any and/or all of these following musicians, this should really excite you. Josh Homme, Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones are currently recording an album that will hopefully be released soon.

This really has me pumped. I'm a fan of pretty much anything Josh Homme touches, and I love Grohl as a musician, especially as a drummer, which he is doing for this project. And John Paul Jones? I mean, come on... he's John Paul Jones. The dude can play bass.

I'm really not sure what to expect stylistically. I doubt they would make it sound like QoTSA or Foo or Zep, but I'm sure you'll be able to hear each member's musical background come through in the songwriting. I'm also not sure who is singing, although I'm assuming it will be mostly Josh Homme with Dave Grohl also probably doing some singing as well. I do know that Homme will play guitar, Grohl will be on drums and Jones will play bass, though. That alone, means the musicianship will be excellent.

I'm really pumped.

Figured I'd update this thread.

The rumors were true and this band is called Them Crooked Vultures. (http://vultur.es)

They've played a few shows so far, and they're gonna be releasing an album, although nobody knows when. They've been really secretive about the whole thing so far.

But as an aside, this is incredibly awesome music. I've heard quite a bit of their stuff from live videos on Youtube, it's really amazing.

From what I've read Homme handles most of the vocals and it might was well be the latest incarnation of QotSA. Not that that's a bad thing at all (especially with Grohl back on the drums)...

It does have a certain QoTSA feel, it's hard not to since Homme has a very unique style.

But I wouldn't say it's QoTSA II.

Even when Nick Oliveri was in QoTSA, the bass expertise wasn't nearly what JPJ can bring to the table. And this project has a slightly more classic rock, bluesy feeling. Songs like Warsaw, Nobody Loves Me and New Fang have that kind of a vibe. Scumbag Blues almost sounds Cream-ish.

Whatever it is, I like it. :-p

New Fang is a cool song.

It wouldn't have been my first choice for their lead single, but they're in the band and I'm not, so, ya know.

FWIW, they also play a great live show. I got to see them Oct. 6th at LC Pavilion in Columbus and they were awesome. I even got to meet Josh Homme for the second time and have my picture taken with him after the show. He's a really cool guy.

I work security for the LC Pavilion in columbus, and they came through earlier this year. They were absolutely amazing!! I thought it was the best show of the year so far! I really love their music, and "Nobody Loves Me, And Neither Do I" is probably my absolutely favorite song of the year. It's just awesome. I can't wait til the 17th to buy the album!
