I guess I am so used to calls WAY worse than that that I didn't even notice. I see balls 3-4 inches off the plate called strikes all the time.

Votto needs to make an adjustment after the Break. He is really prone to the cut fastball moving back over the plate. Its been getting him the past week or two.

Now Votto is inside (the clubhouse).
BTW, does Baker have a leg injury or something or was he using the men's room?

What was the big deal about Harang losing weight all about in the offseason? That was never his problem. Now he just has less weight and less velocity on his fastball. Way to go Aaron!

I say eat some Double Whoppers and get your velocity at least back in the 90's. No good?

Harang's velocity is about exactly where it's been the last several years.

why would Dusty put Rosales at first? wouldn't it be better to have hannigan catch and bat 3rd (with Hernandez going to 1B) than Rosales batting 3rd?

Welke is not a bad ump, and that pitch was close enough to call a strike.

But he broke a Cardinal rule of umpiring. He followed a batter, after the batter had already left the batter's box and was headed to the dugout. He even took off his mask, which makes it worse.

All he had to do was calmly explain why he thought it was a strike and get back to his job. But he felt it was necessary to go out of the umpires box and follow Votto as Votto walked back to the dugout. He was looking for a fight. That is inexcusable. And I am usually the first to back up the ump.

I kind of thought he was practically begging Votto not to make him toss V....

George Grande likes to call ballplayers "Matinee Idols" a lot. It's actually pretty disturbing.

Not that there's anything wrong with it.

But even Jeff Francouer? Really George? I mean, really?
