Stolen from ORG: Will Walt make an moves by the deadline

I say yes, with the degree of which being determined if he can clear a contract in Harang or Arroyo. If he can, Rolen will be a red. If he can't, all we might see is Weathers or Rhodes dealt for w/e.

Yes, but I doubt it's anything more than a reliever (Rhodes or Weaver). I doubt we see the big moves that rids us of Harang, Cordero, or Arroyo until the off season.

    YES.
But with Micah heading to the DL, no starting pitching gets moved IMO, until the off-season.

I do think we move a reliever or two though, I just hope it's NOT Rhodes, he is cheap for 2010 and has a solid role with us. I think Weathers gets moved.

I do also think he is looking to get Rolen. Rumors were they wanted to "make some other moves first" allegedly to get rid of some payroll, so we may just end up giving up another prospect with EE to get them to throw in some cash.
To me, that is the move to set us up for 2010/2011 - gg caliber D at 3b with minimal dropoff in offense if any, and setting the stage for 2011 for Frazier.

So, bottom line, something will go down, may be minor (Weathers) or something a tad more (Rolen), but I fully expect a HUGE move this off-season to really change the face of this roster. Of course I felt that way last off-season too.
With a HEALTHY team, we have a lot of Starting Pitching, and still a huge void in LF.
    Harang
    Arroyo
    Volquez
    Cueto
    Bailey
    Owings
    Leake

That's 7 starting pitchers who could make any teams 4 deep. I expect Leake to be fast-tracked if not start out of the gate, he is that good. No way we go into 2010 with Harang AND Arroyo IMO. Alonso is also a great trading piece, since Votto's not going anywhere for a decade I'd assume... Moves must be made, it's Dusty's last season and Jocketty needs to do what he was brought here to do, make that big trade that we all applaud!

    PEACE

I think that in a year or two, one of these guys - Frazier, Dorn, Valaika, Cumberland, Stubbs - will be ready to replace Dunn. They won't hit as many home runs as Dunn, but they should have similar OPS. - 757690, July 22, 2008

Alonso will be playing 1B for the REDS and batting 4th one year from today. - Kingspoint, July 9, 2009

If Micah Owings being on the DL stops Walt from moving either Harang or Arroyo, he should be fired immediately. Micah is a #5 at best. At his very best. Nothing he does or doesn't do should affect how the Reds handle the Harang/Arroyo/trade deadline situation.

That's being short-sighted. You've got to have pitchers to pitch innings.

If Micah goes to the DL, and Volquez doesn't come back this year, who is going to get all the innings? Maloney? another rookie?

    Cueto
    Arroyo
    Bailey
    Maloney
    TBD

is not going to get us through the rest of the year, let alone next week...

The question was, does he make a move this week. I say no SP gets moved this week.

Maloney, Lehr, Ramirez. Hell bring up Kip Wells if you want. I can't imagine it would be too hard to scrounge up some vet that is aching for another chance to finish out the season.

I would call worrying about who is going to eat meaningless innings in a meaningless season rather than getting the best possible deal for Arroyo and/or Harang the short-sighted approach.

If you get the offer you want for either of them you most certainly pull the trigger on that deal.

Are you gonna sit there and tell me if the Dodgers called you up and said Harang plus fillers for Kemp plus fillers sounds good to them you would say no?

And say no because you are worried about who is going to pitch some meaningless innings down the stretch?

Now that would be the short-sighted approach.

I am neither advocating nor expecting a starting pitcher to be traded. But you dangle them both and if the offer is a good one for the Reds, the status of Micah Owings' shoulder is the very least of my concerns.

The question states will Walt make any moves by July 31st. I definitely think they will make some kind of move by the 31st deadline.
