Say what? Weems has no power, no contact ability and no plate discipline. That doesn't sound like Mesoraco at all.

Weems is a 20 year old LH hitting catcher. Hitting .260 in A ball with little power. He, Barnhart and Fleury give the organization some LH hitting catchers, something they had not had outside of Kroski. Maybe one of them pans out. That kind of depth is probably useful.

JHJ on a one-year contract expiring in two months doesn't have much value. I can't see it being anyone very promising. It's just a small salary dump for the Reds who will use JHJ's spot on the roster for a kid.

Weems' middle name is cash--i.e. what we're not paying Hairston.

The Reds are sending Edwin Encarnacion, Josh Roenicke and Zach Stewart to Toronto for Scott Rolen.

That's a high price to pay.

In exchange for Jerry Hairston Jr., the Reds are getting catcher Chase Weems. He was drafted in the sixth round in 2007.

A bucket of balls for Gonzo was too much to ask I imagine...LOL
It's absolutely pathetic that people can't have an opinion from actually watching games and supplementing that with stats. If you voice an opinion that doesn't fit into a black/white box you will get completely misrepresented and basically called a tobacco chewing traditionalist...

Is the Sally League comparable to Dayton or Sarasota? Weems seems light for a catcher. Thoughts on whether we may have plans to move him to another position?

My future brother-in-law (HUGE Yankees fan) likes getting JHJ b/c it means hopefully no more Cody Ransom.

Just wait til he gets used to JHJ, then he'll be begging for Ransom back...

He's getting the amazing Shelly Duncan back too.

    Sally's Low A.
