Dusty might start planning for this. For example, I'd stay away from Coco today, he sometimes throws a lot of pitches. That might hurt the Reds' chances of ending the game with fewer pitches.

Of course, if the Cubs don't have to bat in the bottom of the ninth -- and they probably won't -- that helps the Reds mightily in the pitch count fight. One could argue it's not really fair if the Reds' pitchers don't throw the ninth. But we'll take it.

Yes, in terms of the final score, absolutely.

But to win the pitch count battle, I'm not so sure. That Harden throws a lot of pitches.

With Harden pitching, odds were good it was going to be 4 innings for the bullpen. His leaving early just means one extra inning for them.
