Apparently the reason Rodriguez did not play was he had a sore thumb and Girardi decided he did not want to use him unless absolutely necessary. Which is kind of interesting the Yankees manager did not play his player Rodriguez with a sore thumb but did play Beltre from the Red Sox who was playing with a sore hamstring.

Actually, Ryan Braun says hello. Braun made the best defensive play of the night, and it really wasn't even close IMO.

Both of them should have been replaced if they were hurt.

Beltre really wanted to play, and had every opportunity to take himself off the roster. Forget A-Rod and Beltre, Wigginton and Bautista can both play 3rd, and if using Bautista at 3rd left them short in the OF, he had Swisher. When he took Longoria out, he put Wigginton in at 3rd, then used Swisher to hit for him, then he put Beltre in at 3rd, without Wigginton ever getting a PA or Swisher playing anywhere in the field. To me, that's how you manage if you're trying to make sure to get Wigginton and Swisher and Beltre all into the game in their first, and maybe only, All Star Game appearances. It's definitely not how you manage if you're concerned you might run out of players to play 3rd base.
