My guess is that Cincy feels like this game is a lock no matter who plays 2b so they'd rather take the opportunity to see what Valaika can do.

I honestly thought somebody bumped a spring training thread when I saw the lineup. I don't have a problem with it, but it just looks odd.

You want to draw people into this thread...put "Bruce leading off" in the title.

Interesting is the only word I can come up with right now.

This is SO going to be one of those games where the 'weird' lineup somehow puts up about sixteen runs, LOL :

I would play Cairo and have him lead off.

If Cincy thinks this or any other game is a lock they will not make the playoffs.

There is no such thing as a lock in baseball when the Pirates beat Wainwright.

The Reds have huge trouble with Gorzelany.

Like the lineup. Dusty put some thought into it.
Forces Bruce to settle down. Valaika is a contact guy, batting second might be a good place for him to make his first start, rather than leadoff.

In any case, this one's on Cueto mostly. He needs to bounce back.

Maybe I should reword...maybe they think that this game will likely not come down to who plays 2b and want to see what they have in Valaika. I've noted a few games in the past where it seemed like they have confidence in the matchup and did something unorthodox with the lineup.

This is what I was thinking too. It never seems to fail that when we see one of those really strange lineups...it goes nuts.

Reds are pretty strong favorites tonight (-173).

Odds that the Reds will be 3 games down after tonight are 3.3-1 (according to sportsbook, via a Cubs/Cards parlay).

$100 gets you $330? Not a bad wager.
