Wainwright finally stops the inning after a line drive out to LF from Desmond.

He sure doesn't look sharp and like himself through two innings in Washington.

Okay, I've been meaning to ask this for awhile.... How come after every ball throw in the dirt is there a new ball given to the pitcher?

They can notice it in the moment, but they don't tend to remember it very well.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Dirt can cause scuffs on the ball and some pitchers can make the ball do weird things then. I do admit it's a little over the top though

If it happens routinely, as in the case of Stubbs, people remember. If it doesn't it really means nothing.
