Re: Sappelt Might get Called Up

All of this begs the question of who could/would be removed from the 40-man if they decide they need to make room for the likes of Sappelt, Dorn or Frazier. I'd have to think that Philippe Valiquette is at risk. His value is derived from being a lefty reliever who throws hard. Well, there's Chapman (who, granted, will likely not remain in the bullpen long-term). And there's Joseph, who almost certainly ranks ahead of Valiquette as a prospect. Even Horst, Krebs and Herrera, while not hard throwers, have historically been more productive. If the Reds expect Mace Thurman to regain his health (not sure what his issue is), he's probably in the equation, too.

For that matter, Herrera is another who might be considered expendable. Burton, as well. And lastly, Del Rosario. I suppose there's also the possibility of Edmonds going on the 60-day.

I hardly doubt they'd take a lefty off the roster after one year who throw 96.

Yea, I agree with GOYA, Danny Ray or maybe even Bray have a better shot of being removed before Vall. Baseball values players who throw hard, especially a lefty.

Philippe Valiquette < Pedro Viola, a hard throwing lefty who was DFA'd at the start of the year.

Viola was 27, Valiquette is 23. Big difference.

Probably Perez like you said Batsfan.I'm not sure about their outfield situation, they might have a guy there, but I doubt it.

Dorn won't play over Gomes anyway, so Sappelt makes sense. He can be used as a pinch runner and defensive sub.

They want a 4th OF. they arent going to bring up a Gomes from the left side. Its not how they work.
