    04/09/11 Minor League Games

Dallas Buck will try to get the first win for Carolina tonight against Mobile in a 6:15 start.

Miguel Rojas (left wrist) and Mark Serrano (lower back) have been placed on the DL. Serrano has a knack for injury bugs from what I recall.

Jeff Jeffords and Kyle Day are activated to the Carolina roster. I hope Day is really ready to go because I really want to see him play.

    Tonight's Mudcats Lineup:
    Phipps, RF
    Perez, CF
    Soto, 1B
    Costanzo, 3B
    Cook, LF
    Eyman, SS
    Kahaulelio, 2B
    Coddington, C
    Buck, P

I hope that team doesn't go into a tailspin right off the bat. That would be dispiriting.

It'd be nice if Gregorious were ready to come in and take over for Rojas. Not sure what his status is, though. Or if Gregorius went to Bakersfield, Brodie Greene could move up to Carolina.

In the meantime, all eyes on Dallas Buck.

Sappelt is 2 for 2, which puts him where he belongs at .500, and Reineke has thrown four shutout innings as the Bats lead Toledo and (Nellie) Furbush (I thought we were due for a South Pacific reference), 2-0.

It's the bottom of the first and, as expected, Billy Hamilton has a stolen base.

Dallas Buck answers in the affirmative. Through five: 0 runs, 0 hits, 2 BB, 3 K. However, two on with one out in the sixth . . .

I'd call those five innings a significant development. Given that he's thrown only 80 innings, total, over the past two years, I'm kind of surprised he went out for the sixth.

Guess he shouldn't have. Now 3-0 Mobile, still in the sixth.

Juan Duran just hit a 2-run triple to give Dayton a 5-4 lead after seven innings. Duran is 2-for-4 with a 3B and 2 RBI.

He's starting to make me wonder if he's more than just an experiment. I wonder if we'll see him with the big club by the end of the year.

Dayton held on, 5-4. Great relief work from Pat Doyle (3 IP, 0 R, 4 K) and Blaine Howell (1 IP, sv). Two hits for Hamilton, Duran, Lutz and Siera. D'Anna was 1 for 1 with 3 BB.

Yes, he hit 98 and 97 the next pitch, but he still seems like a position player on the mound. He has serious control issues that will prevent him from sticking in the bigs - or AAA - unless he can fix them quickly.

Also, Frazier is in a SERIOUS slump, he can not see the ball at all, or so it seems. He is taking huge hacks at everything, and looks completely overmatched.

Josh Fellhauer, Henry Rodriguez, Ryan LaMarre, Brodie Greene and Eric Campbell (veteran 3B signing with some power) have started off hitting well for Bakersfield, which leads 7-3 in the fourth. But it's the California League.
