Think I agree. Whether its an RBI or not, there is an inconsistency somewhere.

Upton lines a single just off the glove of Janish. 1st and 3rd.

I'm just guessing on this, but here's my guess.

On Bruce's flyball DP, the run scored officially before the second out was made, so it's an RBI. On a ground ball DP, no one knows if the runs scores before the second out.

There's lots of those in official scoring. The rules are really just stupid sometimes.

I still think it's weird you don't get an RBI on a ground ball.. you knocked the run in

I thought you did unless it was a double play.

edit: I see a double play is what you're talking about. Nevermind.

So if for example it was first and third with nobody out and a guy grounded one to second, and for whatever reason instead of just tossing it to second he got the guy in a run down, then through to first for the out, and while trying to get the second guy in a rundown the guy on third scored, and then they completed the double play would he get an RBI? If that makes sense at all.

Similar to what Phillips did against the Astros the other night but if the run on third had ended up scoring.

Would it almost being like defensive indifference when you steal a base? Because the defense lets you score a run, you didn't earn an RBI? Even though you steal second base they don't award you a stolen base.

Meanwhile, even though Bruce's sac fly was a DP, Votto was going to score anyway. The only reason they cutoff the ball is because he was going to be safe. So you "earned" your RBI.
