If there was a guarantee that Masset = losses until May 1st, then maybe this would make sense. But is there some sort of guarantee that Masset can not and will not turn it on until next month?

This guy is a key to the bullpen. Not sure you want to mess with him because of a few bad games.

I think we can win the pennant without Nick Masset. There's enough talent there that no one pitcher will determine that. I know one thing for certain. Putting him in those situations to fail time and time again and we surely won't win a pennant. This is 2011, not 2010 and just because he righted himself last year, it does not mean he will this year.

What was with the whole charade with Chapman? Was he hurt? Why was Ramon getting on his case?

Who was Baker supposed to go to after Chapman couldn't finish the 8th?
    His options were:
    Cordero
    Masset
    Ondrusek
    Bray
    Maloney

Cordero wasn't going to come in for a 1 2/3rd inning save
Ondruek pitched 1 2/3rd innings the night before
Bray has pitched in 4 of the last 5 days
Maloney... I'm pretty sure everyone would have went nuts if he was the option

Masset's failure last night put the pen in the shape it was in tonight and tonight he failed again. Got to do something about him and quick. Move him down in the order and one of the others up--Smith or Ondrusek.

Yikes! Never really gave it too much thought, but that's a pretty crappy bullpen. Thank whomever they don't play in Petco anymore this year.

This was a bit of an unlucky loss. We lost 1 run for sure, potentially more with the lovely "lets reward the pitcher because the ball bounces out of the park" ground rule double rule on Heisey's RBI triple, oh wait, it was only a double because even though the runners could have crawled to the next base.

Votto's double would have been out of the Grand Canyon, but not Petco Park, so another sure run was stranded.

The Masset deal is tiresome, it seems to be an obvious "dude, trust your stuff and quit nibbling" but I think that is just the approach he is going to use, so he will walk folks or get behind and then get lit up on hitter's counts.

So are you advocating dumping him after 12 games? Sure, it's not good seeing the way he has started out, but that's kind of rash isn't it? Masset has started out like this before and turned it around.

There's a difference between dumping him and not putting him in such high leverage situations. Although in fairness to Dusty, he didn't have a lot of options today.

The Reds need to send Maloney down and call somebody up who is actually of some use in the pen.
