    04/13/11 MiLB Games

After a day off and a long bus ride, the Mudcats are in Huntsville for an 07:43 start. Daryl Thompson will go for Carolina. He should have gotten a victory in the opener but Donnie Joseph couldn't get the job done.

Mike Costanzo is the offensive machine through the first series.

    1.143 SLG
    .429 AVG.
    7 RBI
    2 HR

His grand slam on Monday was the first one since 2009 for Carolina.

Felix Perez has a .105 batting average and Denis Phipps is at .150.

Billy Hamilton reached first after a strikeout. He stole 2nd and 3rd. Yorman walked, but the Dragons failed to score.

Louisville is up 5-0 in the first. Mesoraco powered a single into right on a broken bat with the bases loaded to plate 2, a 3rd reached on a throwing error. Dorn followed it up with an absolute blast of a HR.

Wow we are good! Alonso just made a nice play in left!

Good stuff on Louisville. Klinker is starting and this should give him a cushion.

I want to expand on this a little bit. It was one of those reach far and then dive catches, but the dive happened after the catch. What Alonso showed on the play was a good route and a very good break/reaction on the ball. His lack of speed did indeed show up though. Certainly a good play though.

Dayton is down 3-0 and Lake County is still threatening.

Louisville is up 5-3 in the 2nd.

Soto's error at first leads to run one for the Stars in the first.

Doug, does it seem like Alonso is becoming a realistic option for LF at the major league level?

He isn't quite there yet. But I can see a difference between this year and last year. But last year, he was really bad. I have seen him take a few bad routes early on this season. Of course the Reds current left fielder also still does that (last night in the 10th for example where his first TWO steps were IN on a ball that he had to back up on to catch leaping).

Thanks for the info. I knew everything I read last year was that he was brutal out there but seemed like he put some work into it during the offseason. Appreciate the updates and the info.

Stars up 5-0 in the first. Phipps throwing error contributes. Soto's error is very costly at this point. The ball went between his legs. This game is already a train wreck.

Three errors later the Mudcats retire the Stars in the first. Five runs across.

Dayton is down 7-0. Daniel Corcino is out of the game.
