Bakersfield starting soon. Pedro Villareal on the mound. He struck out 9 batters in 5 2/3 IP in his first outing for the Blaze. There is no truth to the rumor that they are called the Blaze because their home park should be burned to the ground.
Dayton is rough. Mark Katz is probably fuming about now!
Bakersfield is up 6-0. Eric Campbell has a 2 run HR.

Bakersfield wins 7-3. Pedro Villarreal pitched into the seventh after holding Modesto scoreless over the first five. He's looking good, considering it's the California League.
Looks like the Mudcats made some noise late but not enough.
Phipps is really struggling right now at the top of the order. The guy was 0-4 last night with 4 K's. Felix Perez is bad too. Last night they were the top two guys in the order. Throw in three errors and it all adds up.
Arredondo was perfect, K'd three in one inning of work. Saw him the other day and he is money right now.
It feels a lot like last year right about now...
Huntsville generally brings up the rear in Southern League attendance but they drew over 5,000 in their opener last night. Good for them.
No need to rush him up here for a few at bats a week. I'm starting to wonder if he'll be a trade piece come summer if he's still mashing down there in Louisville. I think this is the year Walt finally cashes in some of these blocked upper level prospects for help at the deadline. How long does Sappelt murder minor league pitching until he is called up? I understand we don't have a need for another OFer right now, but he has to be of more use off the bench than Francisco (as much as I like him) and Cairo.
Sappelt will always hit, but remember that his primary agenda in AAA is to become a better baserunner and defensive outfielder. I could see them continue to polish him up for trade bait too.
I think the emerging question may become who will be a better trade chip/who would you rather keep- Yonder Alonso or Dave Sappelt?
Certainly at least one of them should be dealt this summer to bolster the big league club.
Go BLUE!!!
As a player or person? Not many people are too fond on Sapp. I personally think he'll do fine in the big leagues, but it seems that only the Reds and RedZone have a man crush on him, no one else.
I have a feeling there would be plenty of teams interested in Sappelt the player at this point. Not too sure about Alonso, though.
