Here's a project called Big Red Machine, featuring Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) and Aaron Dessner from the National. Good name for a band, or perhaps a baseball team.

EDIT: Lyrics contain some NSFW stuff.

From Amanda Shires’s latest. Best stuff I’ve heard so far this year, and a lot of my favorites have released great new albums.

Just downloaded a bunch of Sinatra. I get in this mood sometimes.

You and I have similar music tastes. If I recall, you're fan of the Amos Lee kind of singer-songwriter genre.

I'm a Sinatra junky too. Listen to him all the time.

Amos Lee released a new album today. There’s really no need to listen to it. Definitely his weakest to date. It wasn’t an album that needed to be made.

"Spirit" barely needed to be made.

He's really on a career death spiral. It's tough to make bad records with talent like his. But he's becoming quite good at it.

Arise and walk, come through. A world beyond that door is calling out for you. Arise and walk, come through. It's calling out for you.

Not that they're new, but I just discovered Mean Jeans. They fill that Ramones-sized hole in my heart.

I didn’t love Spirit either, but there were at least a couple of songs I added to my playlist. But yeah, 2duds in a row. Mission Bell is one of my favorite albums.

This Amos album isn’t as bad as Ray LaMontagne’s latest. Talk about a down spiral. His new stuff is just bizarre. At least Supernova gave us Airwaves. This recent one is Ray on psychedelics.

I didn't hate this new Ray as much as I did "Ouruborus" or however it's spelled. That album and Supernova were just (sound of puking). But he's definitely gone off the deep end.

Loving Tyler Childers and Cincinnati's own Arlo McKinley.

I listen to some of the most boring music on Earth as a fan of depressing indie rock/pop/folk but Amos Lee and that strain of adult contemporary folk/America/bluegrass/soul/NyQuil-pop slows my heart beat to a near dead pace. If I'm going to go that slow and bland and weary, I'm putting on a Mount Eerie record and doing "artsy-guy-singing-about-death-and-existentialism-over-light-acoustic-guitar" boring vs. "guy-in-a-tan-hat-singing-about-fruit-flavored-jams-and-there's-some-light-banjo-picking-oh-and-a-few-seconds-of-harmonica" boring.

You should try Will Oldham aka Bonnie Prince Billy.
