    8.24.11 Game 1 Reds v Marlins

Coach is giving Bump Bailey oops Votto one more chance to prove himself after Yonder hit the cover off the ball.

    #Reds' lineup:

    Phillips 4,
    Sappelt 7,
    Votto 3,
    Bruce 9,
    Hernandez 2,
    Stubbs 8,
    Frazier 5,
    Renteria 6,
    Bailey RHP.

    v. Javier Vazquez, RHP
    7-11, 4.67 ERA

Javier Vazquez, who takes the hill for Florida in the first game, is also looking for his first win in August. The right-hander has pitched well in his last four outings, allowing eight earned runs on 19 hits in 26 innings with 23 strikeouts and just four walks. Vazquez allowed three earned runs over six innings in his latest outing at San Diego, at one point retiring 14 batters in a row after a slow start.

I keep re-reading the lineup for Alonso's name.

Dusty doesn't believe in the hot hand. He also supposedly believes in defense in left field, even though there's been plenty of evidence to suggest otherwise.

There is no reason in the world why Alonso shouldn't have started in LF. I don't care if he can't chew gum and run at the same time. The guy can flat out hit and he needs to play as much as possible.

It looks like Sappelt might be under instructions to look at a strike. He took the second pitch right down the middle, and then on the first pitch he was allowed to swing it, he went after a high pitch he couldn't handle.

Phillips, not sacrificing, ties it at 3 with a double.

    3-3 going to the 6th.

Credit to Texasdave in the Sundeck game thread for the following:

With Hanigan catching in 188 IP - 3.87 ERA.
With Razor catching in 81 IP - 7.38 ERA.

3-3 at the end of 6. Bailey at 92 pitches and hitting 2nd in the top of the 7th. Will Dusty pull him knowing he has an extra arm today with logan ready to be activated after game 1 or will he have him keep going because of the DH?
