Sappelt has a lot to learn. Hamels plays him like a piano. Three straight times...

Hamels vs RHH this year: .202/.248/.288 and he strikes them out 23.5% of the time they step to the plate. Judging Sappelt based on how Cole Hamels made him look probably doesn't do much good.

Not a criticism at all. Just an observation.

    Also frustrating for David.

Homer looking like the pitcher we've hoped we see for four years. Great start. We need some runs...

Homer thorough the 7th, still tied 1 to 1.

Homer has thrown 90 pitches, 65 strikes tonight so far.

It is good that he has pitched fairly deep into the game after the 14 inning game yesterday. The pen could sure use the rest. Now lets get him some run support!

I know he's facing a top pitcher in the NL, so I'm not basing my observation only on tonight's game, but Sappelt has been roundly unimpressive both offensively and defensively so far for the Reds. He has seen limited playing time, so I'm willing to give him more opportunities, but the early returns have not been good.

Cole didn't cause the muffed play in LF.

Sappelt needs to step it up in September.

Bastardo. Think I would have changed my name. Phillies are just loaded.

    Unintentional, intentional walk to Votto.

Sometimes Bruce amazes me. Bastardo throws one strike in6-8 pitches.

Worst atbat of the year by Bruce. Bastardo walks votto on 5 pitches, then Bruce flails at three straight pitches that were way out of the zone. Disappointing.

No one mentioned his defense. And even if they did, one play doesn't tell you anything about ones defensive ability.

I only saw the last pitch of the at bat, but the third pitch was a strike whether he swung or not according to the ESPN K Zone.

THey should be loaded with a payroll of $165,976,381. (The Reds, by comparison, have a total payroll this year of $80,826,667). These figures are from HERE.
