    9.2.11 Reds @ Cardinals

How will I explain this lineup to my ...?

    Brandon Phillips 4
    Edgar Renteria 6
    Joey Votto 3
    Jay Bruce 9
    Yonder Alonso 7
    Drew Stubbs 8
    Juan Francisco 5
    Ramon Hernandez 2
    Johnny Cueto 1

    vs. RH Chris Carpenter
    8-9, 3.76 ERA

    • Taking the mound for the Cardinals is ace Chris Carpenter, who is coming off a rough outing against the Pirates in which he allowed six runs on nine hits in five innings. Carpenter has fared well against the Reds, however, and he has thrown back-to-back eight-inning outings against them with one run between the two. He boasts a career 14-4 record and 2.23 ERA against them in 22 games.

*Against Reds starter Johnny Cueto, Albert Pujols is batting .217 (5-for-23) and Lance Berkman is a .227 (5-for-22) hitter. Yadier Molina is hitting .318 (7-for-22). Cueto last faced the Cardinals and Chris Carpenter on July 15 at home and worked 7 ip, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K and was the victime of a blown save.

*The Reds are 7-5 vs. the Cardinals this season.

*It’s absolutely smoking at Busch Stadium this afternoon. The scoreboard temperature as of 3:15 pm local time read 99 degrees.

I can understand why they aren't starting Mez today...but there really isn't a good reason to not start him tomorrow.

Probably still learning the signs and such. There's no reason for him not to be in tomorrow.

No problem with Mez not in there tonight. Shocked to see Alonso in there for the second night in a row.

I think Walt is going to keep getting rid of left fielders until Dusty plays Alonso. Dusty can't put anybody else out there he doesn't want to lose.

Alonso doubles down the left field line.
Stubbs bunts, Molina throws to 3rd, but Freese isn't back to the base yet, Alonso safe, Stubbs safe.
Francisco doubles down the right field line, both Alonso and Stubbs score.
Ramon grounds out to short, Francisco to third.
Cueto grounds out up the middle to Furcal, Francisco holds.
Phillips doubles off the wall in left center, Francisco scores.
Renteria flares one into short right past Pujols reach, Phillips scores.
Votto singles to right, Renteria to third.
Bruce lines a single up the middle, Renteria scores, Votto to 2nd.
    Alonso grounds out to 2nd.

Reds bat around in the 2nd...sweet!
