9/28/2011 Reds vs Mets 2011 Finale

Here's last 2011 lineup per Fay:

    Stubbs 8, Renteria 6, Votto 3, Bruce 9, Heisey 7, Francisco 5, Mesoraco 2, Janish 4, Volquez RHP

The last day of the baseball regular season is one of the saddest days of the year. The games are every day from April to October, usually. If you miss a game or the Reds lose there's always a game tomorrow. After today that game tomorrow isn't there until April.

Just seems yesterday that Razor took Axford deep to win opening day
...the 2-2 to Woodsen and here it comes...and it is swung on and missed! And Tom Browning has pitched a perfect game! Twenty-seven outs in a row, and he is being mobbed by his teammates, just to the thirdbase side of the mound.

And we get Volqy to end the season.... just as we had him to start it...

Its kinda been a crappy year for Reds baseball, but I'm still sad to see it go.

I'd rather listen to Kelch read the phone book than suffer through Thom Brennaman's attempt to make every instance on the field the most important event since the discovery of manned space flight. -westofyou

Hoping it's the last we see of him.

Brandon Phillips is sitting today (to preserve his .300 average.....?).

I think BP strained his quad yesterday.

I am at the game today and there can't be more than 15k fans here today. Weather is overcast but the temperature is very comfortable. I was shocked how few players signed autographs for the out of towners. Bill Bray signed a little, but no one else really did. Here's to hoping the Reds can finish it how they started it. 80 looks a lot better than 79.

Nothing doing for the Reds in the 1st save for a 1 out single by Renteria. After a leadoff single by Reyes (who was pulled for a pinch runner) Volquez gets the Mets 1-2-3. 0-0 after 1.

I see the Mets are playing the numbers game for Reyes.

After a leadoff double by Heisey, Francisco, Mesaroco and Janish go down in order. The Mets go out in order in their half of the 2nd. Volquez starts the 3rd by grounding to 2nd. Stubbs lines to LF and Renteria Ks.

Both teams are so eager to go home neither may score. It may be the first 0-0 game in MLB history.

Mets have broken through with a run in the 4th and still batting.

Volquez riggles out of the jam. Mets lead 1-0 after 4.
