Darn, I was afraid of that. Navarro catching a game this weekend. That scares the heck out of me from a defensive standpoint. Hope it doesn't work out that way. Let's even the series............

FWIW, Navarro caught Leake back on 8/4 when Leake faced the Pirates. 6 innings, 4 earned runs. No wild pitches or passed balls.

It looks like Freese and Molina will be out of the lineup today for the Cardinals.

I cannot stand Molina personality wise, but that dude was in some serious pain last night and still changed the game offensively. His first at bat, he was wincing and taking deep breaths (back symptoms), then promptly took a good pitch up the middle for a single. Don't worry about today, there is this little historical problem the Reds have getting backup catchers out. They can be hitting on the interstate and hit a homer and have three hits in a start against the Reds (Henry Blanco is my favorite example, but then Eric Kratz provided most recent evidence).

Freese's wrist did not look good at all. Probably day to day if xrays negative, but it makes you wonder if it won't be one of those nagging things the rest of the season for him that saps some power without full use of both wrists.

I just don't see us getting to Garcia today. He's a ground ball strikeout pitcher and we don't track well against that. At least he's lefty so Stubbs might actually see the ball enough to swing.

I believe these days the Reds offense can get to any pitcher. The question is if our pitching can make the lead stand up or keep a deficit close.

Last night was discouraging, but the Cards have that freaky thing going with Latos. The Reds pitching, even Leake and Bailey, have handled the Cards more often than not.

With that said, their offense is a lot less scary with Molina and Freese out.

I would have used Hanigan today. He does his best hitting against lefties.

Navarro, who can hit left handed, would then go tomorrow against Wainright.

Likely Navarro will go both days replacing Mes as the Leake/Bailey catcher.

Leake struggling to spot his fastball (both sinker and cutter) early. Too many balls in the middle of the plate.
This will not change until the Reds win the World Series.......

Top 2nd, Schumaker with a one out single followed by 6-4-3. Reds coming up. No score.
