Hey, remember that time Joe Maddon won a World Series for the Cubs and they tossed him out two years later?
    I'm not a system player. I am a system.

Managing is a volatile job. Cora and Hinch from 2017 and 2018 are the only World Series winning managers still managing the team the won with.

Pfff, you could write for Fox News with this little context.

3 of the last 9 WS were won by Bochy and another by Larussa and Yost. All retired and all would still be managing their teams if they so wanted.

So that leaves only John Farrel and Joe Maddon to be fired or not re-signed.

Doesn’t seem so volatile for Championship managers now does it? (That’s rhetorical, I know you’ll have something to say. You always do.)

I think Yost was nudged out in KC. Not so sure he was welcome to return for 2020.

Even then I seem to remember the prevailing thought being that the Royals won it in spite of Ned, not because of him. I may be misremembering but that's what I remember.

Ned was the butt of a lot of jokes from the sabermetric community until he won the World Series. Perhaps that is where you are getting that impression from.

This seems really goofy to me. Also I’m sick of David Ross in general.

I got sick of him when he kept dropping throws on plays to the plate when he was with the Reds.

Unless he really, really wants the gig he shouldn't do it. Right now he's a hero in CHI for the 2016 Series. He's beloved. What happens when he takes the gig and they don't do well? Now he's no longer beloved. They have some hard decisions to make there. Baez and/or Bryant may be traded if they don't re-sign. Kimbrel was a walking disaster and is on the hook for two more years. Lester isn't getting any younger. Rizzo's had several nagging injuries. Heyward is better than he was a couple of years ago and always stellar defensively but he's a money pit. Thom's favorite player is a DH masquerading as a LF and he's going to start to get paid. Plus Ross would have to follow a guy who won the 1st World Series for the Cubs in 110 years and got them to the playoffs every year except for last year. That's a really tough act to follow.

Re: We are not mocking the Cubs enough

Cubs firing Maddon takes me back to 1978, when another team fired their manager who said at the time "I'm totally shocked. I never knew this was coming." His team "only" won 92 games that year. They had won back-to-back World Series in '75 and '76. He then won another WS with the Tigers in '84. NOT one of my favorite memories.

    Seems quite volatile to me.

Two guys guys recently fired two years after winning the World Series. It’s the freaking World Series, the ultimate goal. And it still wasn’t enough.

How is that volatile? it was two guys. The others ALL RETIRED, because you know... Father Time claims all. That isn't volatility.

But you are consistent in never wavering. You do you.

He was okay on the Reds but the ideas that 1. He was some Cubs legend after being there for approximately 30 seconds and 2. David Ross deserved a retirement tour really grated on me, and I guess we will have to keep hearing about this middling journeyman catcher for the rest of our lives.

It’s should be quite rare for teams to fire managers that lead them to World Series banners. Two in a seven year period is quite volatile, imo.

I would say it's part of the instant gratification society/what have you done for me lately attitude but the Reds fired Sparky two years after winning back to back World Series and appearing in two previous ones. We all know about the Yankees and Billy Martin. Casey Stengel was fired after losing the 1960 Series after winning 8. I agree it's rare but certainly not unprecedented.
