That would be a popular choice around here. UTSA whispered that it wanted to be independent in football (when it starts playing football in 2012) and play its other sports in the Southland. Before UTSA could announce that, the Southland decreed that member schools must be members in all sports. I imagine UTSA would like nothing better than to be Division I by the end of the decade and so would its rival, Texas State, 60 miles to the north.

Less then zero, the MWC was born from an unwieldy 16 team WAC.

In the wake of all this conference realignment, the Conference USA and Mountain West have talked about merging into a 20-team conference. The completion of this merger is going to be complex and is just in the talking phase at this point. The winner would most likely be playing for an automatic BCS bid.

If this happens, the WAC will be a thing of the past and we will be ushering in more super-conferences.

CUSA and MWC driving the bus on the creation of super conferences? I don't think so.

Yeah, The best of CUSA and the MWC could form a pretty good 12 team conference leaving the dregs out on their own.

Ya, add the Big East adding the big 12 north schools almost screwed by Texas and that wouldnt usher in the era of mega conferences. The first shot is going to be the SEC... if it ever happens. Big 10 could if they get Notre Dame, theyre not doing that unless it guarentees ND joins.

The Big East offered Villanova to make the jump and become the 9th football school.

Villanova football considering joining Big East

IF VILLANOVA WANTS its football program to move up from the Football Championship Subdivision level to join the Big East, all the university has to do is say yes.

The Daily News has learned that the Big East, one of six BCS conferences, has asked the Wildcats to make the jump.

I am sure if theyre promised enough $$$ then they will do it. But they really had no intentions on doing it during the first raid. We really should look at multiple moves not just one to balance the schedule. Villanova won't add any prestige, it will just add a possible tv market in negotiations and a guarenteed 4th conference home game for all the teams. We can do that and just add an already established D1 program (ECU, UCF, Memphis, etc).

But then you are adding a 17th basketball team The only way I see the conference adding any of the teams you said (and I'm fine with all three), is if they split the conference in all other sports. I think a great solution (unless you can raid the Big 12) is the three teams you mentioned and Nova. Split the conference in all other sports with the 8 that play football now and the new three in one basketball conference, and the 8 that don't (including Nova) in the other.
What if this is as good as it gets?

The problem is easily solved if the Big East tells Notre Dame to join for football or leave the conference.
Hugs, smiling, and interactive Twitter accounts, don't mean winning baseball. Until this community understands that we are cursed to relive the madness.

Now we see why Texas didn't want to be part of the PAC 10.

And why the Big 10 doesn't want any part of those Toledo Rockets.

    Purdue doesn't count.
