Nolan Arenado: “I Feel Disrespected” By Rockies

On the same night that Rockies GM Jeff Bridich said that star third baseman Nolan Arenado wouldn’t be traded, the third baseman laid bare his less-than-positive feelings towards the organization. Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post was on the story in both cases.

“I really don’t care what’s being said,” Arenado stated to Saunders. “I just know that I feel disrespected over there.” He offered similarly antagonistic words to MLB.com’s Thomas Harding, writing in a text that “there’s a lot of disrespect from people there that I don’t want to be a part of.”

Arenado declined to elaborate initially. But he noted in a follow-up statement to Harding (Twitter link) that he isn’t upset at being mentioned in trade chatter. Per Arenado: “I’m not mad at trade rumors. There’s more to it than that.”

I'm guessing that he wanted to be a Cardinal so that he could play in front of the best fans in baseball 81 times a year.

DeWitt: Cards' payroll unlikely to increase much

DeWitt reiterated to reporters what he said at the start of the offseason: He doesn’t see the payroll increasing much from where he projects it right now at $170 million. The Cardinals’ $174 million total payroll in 2019 ranked sixth in the Majors, according to Spotrac.

DeWitt’s comments about the payroll, as well as his comfort with the roster the Cardinals have in place now to start Spring Training in less than a month, decreases the likelihood of a reunion with free agent Marcell Ozuna on a multiyear deal and a trade for Rockies star third baseman Nolan Arenado, who the Cardinals have been linked to in the past. The Cardinals have remained in touch with Ozuna and his agent.

In other words, the Cardinals have the flexibility to add a little to the 2020 payroll, but the club does not want to go up a large amount. DeWitt was given the example of a $35 million salary, which is what Arenado will make in '20.

“That's not moving it up a little bit – that's moving it up a lot,” DeWitt said. “We really can't be in that kind of a range.”

ATLANTA -- Longtime Seattle Mariners ace Felix Hernandez reached a minor league deal with the Atlanta Braves on Monday that includes an invite to big league spring training.

The right-hander would get a $1 million, one-year contract if added to Atlanta's 40-man roster.

It's a positive first step, but am I to understand that she's a coach in name only, and will just be in the clubhouse, not present in the dugout?

Yea, probably a stunt to make the fans feel good about their team being the first.
Note, I am not saying she does not deserve the job. I have no idea. She might be the brightest baseball mind on the planet.. Not saying anything wrong about her.. just to make that clear to people that like to pick apart what I say.

I do find it kind of silly that in 2020 we have to still have these "celebrations" whenever we get a "First woman to..." If she can do the job (and I am assuming she can), why should anyone care about whether she's a male or female?

Because it’s a big deal. She’s an inspiration to all the girls who may have viewed MLB as a glass ceiling.

Not to put too fine a political point on it, but tell that to my daughter.

She decided to run for President for her elementary school largely because she stayed up late with me watching Elizabeth Warren on YouTube.

When told of her running for class office, her great-grandmother basically said she should concentrate on more "feminine" things.
