Glad to hear Dietrich is back ... especially if it means Ms. Puig will be around more.

Interesting little piece of information from the Athletic here:

C Tucker Barnhart – A switch hitter his entire career, Barnhart has given up hitting right-handed, he said Wednesday. He toyed with hitting left-handed against lefties at the end of last season and at the time said he wouldn’t make a final decision until the off-season. He’s made that decision. , Barnhart hit .150/.261/.175 with just one extra-base hit (a double) in 46 plate appearances against lefties as a right-handed hitter in 2019. He was hitless in five plate appearances left-handed against lefties. He’s hit .220/.297/.296 as a right-handed batter for his career. Five of his 39 career homers have come right-handed.
Tucker will be a lefty at the plate going forward. Guessing that means we will likely see Casali vs most if not all lefty starters.

Tick Tock, the game is locked. No one else can play. if they do we'll take their shoe and beat them to they're black and blue...
At least that's the version my sister used as kids when choosing up sides to play Mother May I.. (An important moment in childhood memories for millions of people who don't care) What this has to do with Dietrich is inconsequential..

Not so great of a quote from The Athletic about the Redlegs

But they should know that our voters also had their doubts. One NL exec wondered if this group will gel into “a better team,” as opposed to just “a better roster.” And another NL exec had so many questions about how the defensive pieces will fit (or not) that he pronounced this “the most overrated offseason I can remember in a long time.”

I remember one time going out to the mound to talk with Bob Gibson. He told me to get back behind the batter, that the only thing I knew about pitching was that it was hard to hit.

I read the article and that quote felt like it was due to recent seasons (Bengal treatment) or possibly sour grapes by an exec that didn't have money to spend (Hello Cubbies!). Now, are some of those points possibly valid? Sure... But baseball is the support that I will take the better roster over the better team 100 times out of 99. Give me good players. The defense, especially the infield, is an understandable concern. Moose's full time transition to 2nd, the play of Galvis, etc... The outfield defense largely depends on what lineup gets the start, in my opinion. I'll take this level of financial commitment to the roster, as well as the overhaul to the development system. The status quo wasn't working, so a plan was put in place to change that.

I think that's good thing - he is atrocious right handed, better a good platoon player than a weak switch hitter
99% of all numbers only tell 33% of the story so when looking at the numbers remember that numbers is plural...

I mean that Exec could be from the Marlins. Or Pittsburgh. Or any number of places. I put no value into it.

We are shaping up the be the Griffey/Dunn era Reds with a good pitching staff.

Yep. Hopefully focusing entirely on one side of the plate slightly boosts his performance too.

I just wish they'd have come up with another option behind the plate to compete with Casali.
