NFL players accused of armed robbery at South Florida party

..."Baker, 22, and Dunbar, 27, were attending a cookout at a Miramar home Wednesday night when a fight broke out, and Baker pulled out a handgun, the warrant said. Baker, Dunbar and two other men began robbing other people at the party of thousands of dollars in cash, watches and other valuables, witnesses told investigators.

Police said the four men then fled the home in three vehicles: a Mercedes Benz, a Lamborghini and a BMW. Witnesses said the vehicles were parked in a way that would make it easy to leave quickly, leading detectives to believe the robbery was planned. No injuries were reported.

Baker and Dunbar are both from Miami.

Baker was one of three first-round draft picks the Giants had last season. He was the 30th pick overall out of Georgia. He played in all 16 games, starting 15. He had 61 tackles and no interceptions. He was the last of the three New York picks in that first round."...

Wow! Accusations of course are not convictions and the judicial process must proceed, but if the accusations are true those athletes just threw away more money than they could have possibly stolen.

    Re: The 2020 NFL Season

Oh brother. What do you folks think about affirmative action in the form of moving a team up in the draft if they hire a minority? Well that's exactly what they're considering right now:
Owners to vote on resolution to incentivize minority HC, GM hires

If a team hires a minority head coach, that team, in the draft preceding the coach's second season, would move up six spots from where it is slotted to pick in the third round. A team would jump 10 spots under the same scenario for hiring a person of color as its primary football executive, a position more commonly known as general manager.
If a team were to fill both positions with diverse candidates in the same year, that club could jump 16 spots -- six for the coach, 10 for the GM -- and potentially move from the top of the third round to the middle of the second round. Another incentive: a team's fourth-round pick would climb five spots in the draft preceding the coach's or GM's third year if he is still with the team. That is considered significant because Steve Wilks and Vance Joseph, two of the four African-American head coaches hired since 2017, were fired after one and two seasons, respectively.

Usually better to examine the reasons why so few minorities are becoming coaches given the number of minority players in the sport and try to add incentives to training and coaching courses to get more into it by merit than have a team whose GM or HC has a cloud of "he's only here for the draft pick" over their heads.

I think this is just a terrible direction. I am all for incentives to hire more minority coaches, but it can't come in altering the competitive balance on the field of play. I would not even care if they passed a rule that the NFL would subsidize minority hires salary for a specific amount of time, but giving a team an on field advantage is crossing a line in my opinion. On the field, it is a zero sum game.....this results in giving one team a competitive advantage for hiring a minority candidate, which is punishing teams that hire a white candidate.

Speaking of shots fired...young men with too much money and too much time on their hands...

Redskins WR Cody Latimer was taken into custody in Douglas County, Colorado on Saturday.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office was called to the Zenith Meridian Apartments in Englewood, CO on a call of shots fired indoors. Latimer was taken into custody on charges of assault in the second degree, menacing, illegal discharge of a firearm, prohibited use of a weapon, and reckless endangerment. He's currently being held on a $25,000 bond. Given the charges, his place on Washington's roster is in doubt.

Giants CB Deandre Baker turned himself in to Miramar PD Saturday morning.
On the other hand, there hasn’t been any decision yet on if or when Quinton Dunbar will turn himself in, per his attorney Michael Grieco. Baker's lawyer has urged the public not to rush to any judgment, but no other details have come to light after Baker allegedly "pointed a gun at [a witness]" and told a third assailant to shoot someone else. These are clearly accusations that could halt the careers of both Baker and Dunbar if declared accurate.

Seahawks CB Quinton Dunbar surrendered himself to Miramar, Florida police on Saturday.
Dunbar is alleged to have participated in a premeditated armed robbery earlier this week with Giants CB DeAndre Baker. It's a serious offense if they're found guilty, although Dunbar's lawyer claims his client was not involved. In addition to potential jail time, the two defensive backs can face team and league discipline. Baker has also turned himself in to police. This story will likely not end anytime soon. The next step is Sunday's court appearance.

Bills DT Ed Oliver was arrested on drunk driving charges overnight in Houston.
Oliver has also been charged with one count of unlawfully carrying a weapon. His arrest came after a fellow driver called 911. Oliver was allegedly found with a beer between his legs, while a search of his car turned up a pistol. These are the sorts of charges that will result in a 2-6 game suspension for the No. 9 overall pick of the 2019 draft. Oliver had an excellent rookie year.

One of the top-4 Safeties in the NFL. Zimmer's Defenses always gaurantee at least 10 wins.

    Vikings re-signed S Anthony Harris to a one-year, $11.441 million contract.
It’s the value of the franchise tag. The two sides will have a couple months to work out a long-term deal, something both parties seem to be interested in, as of the latest reports. Minnesota would certainly like to get Harris signed long-term in order to get his cap number down.

not making excuses for them....but these guys are probably getting to the point where they are feeling a little lost. Many of these guys have been on fairly strict regimented schedules since they were in their early teens, and at this point their mind/body is a little lost being away from the field, the team, the group workouts, etc. etc. Then all that new free time while still probably immature in a life sense and a lot of money.....just not a great equation for some guys.

Oliver had alcohol and a gun. The other 3 are alleged to have committed felonies. You don't go that route because of a couple of idle months, I should think.

to be fair, neither of those would be a problem....it was combining it with driving that was the issue which then resulted in the UCW charge.
