Re: Trevor Bauer should have been dealt!!

Sorting thru the pitching leaderboard is quite a rabbithole.

Sonny Gray just missed qualifying even though he has made 9 starts. (I set my qualification at 40 IP)

Robbie Ray has pitched 43 innings and is walking 7.6/9.

Based on my 40 IP qual. Sonny is 13th in K/9!

If I'd told you before the year Heaney and Bundy would be both top 11th in WAR you'd think LAA would be making the playoffs...

Reds pitchers don’t get mentioned often for the Cy Young. Closest I can remember is Danny Jackson in 1988.

It's not a conspiracy...but you are onto something.

Re: Trevor Bauer should have been dealt!!

I didn't start this thread, but not much more than a week ago, I tipped my cap and declared that we had finally reached the point in the season where the Original Hot Take was going to age well.

I want to reiterate that the original hot take WAS NOT my hot take, but my lukewarm take was that said Hot Take was probably right. I have less at stake, as a result. Therefore, ergo, and thusly:

The original hot take is a steaming turd pile! It's clear now that Trevor Bauer is worth way more to use in 2020 than he ever would have been as a trade chip, and I was stupid for thinking otherwise. STOOPID!

As I lay my head down to sleep tonight, the Reds are actually the 8 seed in the playoffs, and even though I don't love the idea of matching up against the Dodgers, I don't think their top 3 starters are any better than ours, so bring it on. And if we advance, it will be at least in part thanks to the guy that we did NOT deal.

Interesting last quote mentioning the off-season: “So I know that when I’m fully healthy and I’m out there pitching the way I know I can, I’m fully confident in my abilities. Being able to go out and prove that certainly helps perception, especially [with] the uncertainty this offseason, so that’s nice.”
Does he mean the uncertainty of the off-season coming into the season or the uncertainty of the off-season following this one?

The uncertainty of this offseason given the financial havoc that COVID will play in the entire free agent and arbitration market this coming off season.

I'll always have bad thoughts anytime Pete Schourek comes up because his 1995 started the "Gully can fix him" thing that plagued the Reds for years. Also I'll always remember Danny Jackson coming to pitch a rehab start for the Charleston Wheelers in 1990 and the local newspaper acted like the Beatles were coming to town.

Thanks M2. From this list, I went “oh yeah, that too” except for Schourek. I remember he had a nice season but didn’t remember his CY 2nd place. Age is taking its toll.

Gully “fixed him” by telling him to throw harder.
