The club has been quite busy, making a flurry of moves in the last 24 hours. They sign Solly Drake, a switch-hitting CF with good speed (he was 9th in the NL in SB's during his rookie season with the Cubs in 1956), and option him to AAA for depth. To make room for Drake on the 40-man roster, the club designates OF/1B Tim Tolman for assignment. The club also announces that RHP Dwight Siebler has accepted outright assignment to the minors, and that C Norm Sherry and 1B/OF Joe Altobelli have been released; however, following their releases, Sherry and Altobelli were immediately named to manager Tommy Lasorda's coaching staff. Coaching assignments (with the exception of Ray Miller as pitching coach) have not yet been finalized, but it is speculated that Sherry will likely be the bullpen coach, and Altobelli (who has managerial experience, including a World Series championship for the Orioles in 1983) will be the bench coach.

For some reason that name always stood out for me. He was someone when you were young you thought was better than he really was as a player. He came through the Dodger system when people like Garvey, Lopes and Cey were around and never got much of a chance with them. I'm sorry to see he to involved in drugs later on. I hope he was able to get through that. His last game that he came to bat he flew out to LF and was 0-4.

Dodgers had a great hype machine for their young players, a lot was hype but it was more national than most teams hype

The club signs a switch-hitting 3B/1B/C with power who will provide a much-needed left-handed bat off the bench. To make room for Sudakis on the 25-man active roster, the club options C Mike Sadek to AAA. (With Bill Freehan and Del Crandall on the active roster and Sudakis available as a third catcher in case of emergency, Sadek becomes a redundant piece on the 25-man roster, so he heads to AAA where he will be the everyday starter behind the plate. Should anything happen to either Crandall or Freehan, Sadek would then undoubtedly be recalled to serve as the #2 catcher.) To make room for Sudakis on the 40-man roster, the club designates C/OF Phil Lombardi for assignment. The club also announces that OF/1B Tim Tolman has accepted outright assignment to the minors.

That was quite a baseball family! Besides the three that made the majors, four more brothers played in the minors!

In Boyers final game he pitched one inning of a 4-0 loss for the KC A's.

I have a good 1970’s baseball card collection. I do not recall seeing multiple positions displayed on one like that saying
    3B-Catcher.

I think some did. That one could be one someone came up with. There's a lot of that when start looking for cards on the internet.
