Vaccine passports actually make even more sense if the vaccines don’t prevent spread.

How is that? Who cares if the guy next to you on a plane is vaccinated if his vax doesn't prevent you from getting it from him?

If the vaccine keeps you from getting hospitalized and dying by a fairly significant amount, than passports make sense to keep people that are at a much higher risk or needing medical care and/or dying from being places that will increase their chances of that happening.

At this point I don’t think most places should have them, but that’s why it still made sense to keep them once it became pretty obvious that with variants the vaccines weren’t preventing infection.

So this is what was argued when vaccine passports were proposed?

The bottom line that the 3-4 of us are getting at is they lied to us all and abdicated their responsibility to provide a social safety net to the people. They gave us a few small checks over 2 years while we struggled and gave corporations billions while those corporations raised prices and experienced record historic profits. If it offends Democrats or centrist folks for us to keep laser focused on how the government failed to keep us safe, financially covered, and from being forced back to work to benefit corporations, then I don’t know what to say. You lie and fail the American people and we vote you out. Us 3-4 shouldn’t be the only ones saying this. #votefarleft #democraticsocialism #stopthelies #stopputtingprofitsoverpeople

It seems to me the passports had to do with how the disease affected your neighbor. The idea that it keeps you out of the hospital has to do only with that individual. Passports are generally put in place with the idea of not spreading a disease like Ebola, malaria or whatever

Yes if you only think about yourself the passport idea was to potentially help you not get Covid.
From a societal aspect the passports help people that didn’t get vaccinated from needing very expensive and sometimes limited available health care and also from dying.
If it’s protecting people or protecting people from themselves, helps either way.

I don't see the purpose of the passport if the vax doesn't prevent you from getting it or spreading it. I agree there's a purpose for some individuals to get the vax but why play the passport game? 'Cause they're afraid you might need hospitalization while you're flying over the Atlantic? No, that's not it

We stopped doing the passports a while ago, not sure why you are questioning it now. It's sort of like going on the main thread to discuss signing Eric Milton.
