Maybe if we get enough guys, the injuries will stagger themselves.

Manoah is an enormous (literally and figuratively) question mark. No thanks, Reds have a handful of those already.

After its recent acquisitions Kansas City lists 8 starting pitchers, and they have one bullpen guy Zerpa who may also be in the rotation. India would improve them significantly at either third or second and Stephenson would enable them to get Salvador Perez out from behind the plate. Or Fraley or Benson would provide them an upgrade in the outfield. Brady Singer and M.J. Melendez for India and the Royals' choice of Stephenson, Benson, or Fraley. Singer in 2022 was extremely good and even in his much worse year in 2023 he was reasonably good through five innings and vastly better when being caught by somebody other than Perez. He's certainly not a "sure thing" like some here seem to want but there are really very few of those in MLB, and frankly the two main names bandied about here--Cease and Bieber--are far from sure things as well. I'd much rather take a chance on Singer in a deal involving no prospects than send off a load of prospects to the WS or Guardians.

What about as a reliever? He’s got some nasty stuff. I had this thought while pooping earlier.

Being damaged goods is a completely different story than having some sort of pitch clock related drop off.

Reds need to swoop in and sign another good BP arm while everyone is fixated on pitchers who've never pitched an inning in MLB before. Take advantage of someone wanting to sign before Christmas or the end of the year. There's plenty of guys still on the board that would be nice upgrades. Even if they don't land that front line SP they could still shorten games by adding to the pen. Most SP are only going 5 innings these days anyway so strengthen that pen.

I almost wonder if adding another shut-down bullpen guy (Hicks?) would be better than adding a starter. If the rotation does prove to be a weakness, then the Reds could make a deadline deal for someone who may not be available right now.

I don't think it's the worst plan in the world. Greene and Lodolo are likely to be on innings limits anyway plus Martinez gives them an option to save the pen with long relief outings. They could turn the pen into a weapon by adding one more really good arm. I wouldn't mind a lefty like Matt Moore to take Young's spot or they could go with a late inning righty like Neris or David Robertson. Grab a RP now and it makes waiting for the SP FA and trade market to cool down easier.

Would you do this deal if you’re the Reds? If so, then would you sign a Michael Taylor or Randall Grichuk to give them that right hand bat to replace Steer?

    Reds

    NAME POSITION SURPLUS
    Bryan Woo SP 28.2
    Total Value:
    28.20

    Mariners

    NAME POSITION SURPLUS
    Spencer Steer 3B 29.7

If Steer gets dealt for SP then India becomes his "replacement" IMO. Taylor in CF and Friedl in LF would give a boost to the defense though. It's a tough call as I really like Woo, but we don't have much data on him to be a sure thing going forward. I would have to say no to a 1 for 1, but maybe Seattle could add something to make it a yes.

No. Woo is another promising young starter similar to what the Reds already have. The Reds need a proven veteran. If I'm trading Steer, I'd want to add more and aim for Cease, Burnes, Luzardo or Valdez.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

But you would have more years of control with Woo and the cost will be less in regards to prospects.
