36 is Ricki Don't Lose that Number from Steely Dan although I admit I don't know which of the two the story is about. I've got a 50/50 so I'll go with Donald ***en.

Rikki Ducornet is the subject of the Steely Dan song "Rikki Don't Lose That Number."[13] Steely Dan singer Donald ***en had met her at Bard College.[13] Ducornet says they met at a college party, and even though she was married at the time, he gave her his number. Ducornet was intrigued by ***en and was tempted to call him, but she decided against it.
IMO, it doesn't say much for ***en. He knew she was married and pregnant yet hit on her anyway. That is interesting. If you try to write out his last name, it gets changed to ***en instead.

    37. We talked about singer/songwriter and Cincinnati native, Marty Balin. Now, let's talk about another Cincinnati native, who also took an interest in music and became a singer and songwriter himself. He and Balin were born about seven years apart in Cincinnati. In addition to sharing the same birthplace, the two men would go on to share some very strange, maybe even eerie, connections later in life.

Both would end up settling in the Haight-Asbury district of San Francisco. Balin would help shape the music scene in Haight-Asbury in the mid 60's, when he formed Jefferson Airplane and debuted the band at The Matrix, a club he opened in August of '65. The other "musician" settled into Haight-Asbury in the spring of '67, moving into the neighborhood known for its burgeoning "Summer of Love" counterculture. He, and a young girl by the name Mary Brunner, moved into a residence at 636 Cole Street, and lived there from April til November of '67. This residence was less than two miles from where Balin took up residence on 16th and Clement back in '65 when he formed Jefferson Airplane.

The struggling, wannabe musician befriended Beach Boys founder and drummer, Dennis Wilson, even spending considerable time at Wilson's house. Wilson actually took one of his songs, changed the title and altered the lyrics to fit the Beach Boys style, then released it as a B-side to the '68 Beach Boys song "Bluebirds Over the Mountain." The original songwriter, who wanted so much to be a big shot in the music business, was never officially credited for the song. He also approached a record producer(Doris Day's son) about getting a recording contract. The producer finally agreed to audition the singer but, after the audition, refused to sign him, saying his music was just "average." The rest, as they say, is for the history books.

Maybe the most eerie connection between Balin and his fellow Cincinnati native is the rather shocking similarity in their physical appearance. They really did look a lot alike at the time they were hanging out around the San Francisco music scene in the late 60's. I wonder if the lesser musician ever tried to pick up chicks with the line "How you doin' ? I'm Marty Balin." Probably not. He had his own way with young girls.

What's the name of the infamous failed musician from Cincinnati?

#37. Charles Manson. Or, as he was known in his younger days, Dancin' Manson.

Balin settled in Haight-Asbury and wrote one of the most beautiful love songs of all-time.

Manson settled in Hate-Asbury, started up a cult, and was responsible for a whole lot of murders, including one of the most beautiful women of all-time.

    More weirdness...

Terry Melcher was one of the principal organizers and a significant creative force behind the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, at which Balin and JA performed. Melcher, of course, was the guy who refused to sign Charlie to a record deal, sparking Charlie's rage . The Manson killings occurred at Melcher's former residence at 10050 Cielo Drive, prompting many to believe that Melcher might have been Charlie's target. Charlie had been on the property at Cielo Drive multiple times, apparently.

In fact, Sly Stone spent time at 10050 Cielo Drive while Melcher lived there, even playing piano and singing with Melcher's mother, Doris Day. Sly reportedly said that he saw Manson at the house on more than one occasion. Before JA became famous, Sly produced several tracks for Grace Slick's band, The Great Society, which opened for the very first iteration of Balin's Jefferson Airplane. Also both Sly and JA performed at Woodstock, with Sly immediately preceding JA, who was the final act.

So, lots of weird Charlie and Marty connections.

Doris Day is another Cincinnati connection. Day was born and raised in the Queen City. Doris Kapelhoff.

Marty Balin and Terry Melcher were born exactly 9 days apart.

To Charles Manson, the number "9" was a reference to the Beatles' song "Revolution 9" from their White Album, which he interpreted as a prophecy for an apocalyptic race war he called "Helter Skelter".

Manson developed a complex and delusional interpretation of the song's repeated phrase, "Number 9, Number 9, Number 9," linking it directly to Chapter 9 of the biblical Book of Revelation.

Ultimately, Manson and his followers were convicted of 9 murders in total, including the Tate and LaBianca killings.

    Re: *** music trivia ***

Back to the "Day the Music Sighed," when Bobby Vinton topped the charts for the final time...(I promise, that's my last shot taken at Bobby) While Bobby was perched atop the Billboard chart , the first wave of the British Invasion was seen, as "I Want To Hold Your Hand" debuted at #45 on January 18 of '64. That's when things got real.

Vinton had a four week run at #1 until the Beatles' "I Want To Hold Your Hand" took over the top spot. By April 14, the Fab Four held down the Fab 5. That is, on April 14, 1964, the Beatles held the top 5 spots on the Billboard Hot 100, a feat that had never been accomplished before, and hasn't been accomplished since. Not only did they hold down the top five spots on the chart, the lads from Liverpool had seven other songs appearing on the Hot 100. Furthermore, a week later, on April 21, two additional Beatles' songs entered the Billboard chart, giving them a staggering total 14 songs out of the Hot 100. Now that's utter domination!!!

Obviously, no other artist, or band, has come close to duplicating he feat accomplished by the Beatles in April of '64. But who could make the case for having come the closest? That, RZ music trivia savants, is what you are gonna tell me.

    38. Fast forward more than a decade after the Beatles' dominance on the chart(14 years to be exact). Four of the top 5 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 on March 4 of 1978 were songs that were either written by, or recorded by this artist/band. Later on in April of that year, he(they) were responsible for five of the top ten songs, including the two songs sitting at the top at #1 and #2. Overall, this act was responsible for 7 #1 songs over a span of 13 months. Not quite Beatles' dominance but pretty dominant, nevertheless.

Can you name the artist or band who either wrote or recorded the five songs that were simultaneously in the top 10 in April of 1978? Also how many of the five songs can you name?

Solo a guess, but given April of 1978 I would go with the Bee Gees during the Saturday Night Fever craze.

That's a really really great effort. As Meatloaf said, Four out of five ain't bad( or something like that). "How Deep is Your Love" peaked late in 1977 and was well out of the top 10 by April of '78. The others are spot on. OUTSTANDING!!!

More about Rikki Ducornet("Rikki Don't Lose That Number"). She is a renowned, award-winning(many awards) writer, poet and artist. She is 82 years old today. She did just fine without that ass, Donald ***en.

She has written more than twenty books . Her novels are published in over a dozen languages and her paintings exhibited internationally. She made a good decision in losing that number.

39.One of my biggest crushes as a teenager... She was ten years older than me but I didn't care. I would have traveled all the way to California and married her in a heartbeat, provided she would have agreed to dump that loser, Andrew Gold, who she was engaged to. She eventually dumped Andrew and later married drummer, Russ Kunkel. She was once a roommate with Linda Ronstadt at, with whom she shared clothes and makeup when they lived together. Like Linda, she got to be friends with Neil Young . Both she and Linda sang backup on several of Neil's albums.

One day, she was in Neil's car , she found a demo tape in the front floorboard of his car(I can see Neil tossing tapes into the floor of his car). She played the tape and loved the song. When she told Neil how much she enjoyed the song, he said, "It's yours." It sure was. She made it her own. The song was changed to one having a more upbeat arrangement and released on her debut album. The song peaked at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 early in 1979 , and reached #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart. It was her biggest hit. Sadly, she died at the young age of 45.

Name my perfect hippie chick singer and the Neil Young song that she sent rocketing up the charts?

That’s Lotta Love by the late Nicolette Larson. Fun fact: She sang backup on Christopher Cross’s hit, Say You’ll Be Mine.
