After reading this, I'll take a hard pass on Castellanos...

I would rather give a chance to Hinds or CES over Castellanos at this point.

I mean the Athletic article calls Castellanos cracking a beer in the dugout “an unforgivable act.”

    Against the rules but c’mon.

Castellanos is pretty much a DH only at this point....I simply dont see the need for that type of player after bringing on Suarez....especially when that player his a low 700 OPS type of bat.

Biggest offense was not bringing enough for everyone even Andy Dufresne knew to do that

    Elroy Face Passes Away

The Pirates announced that former All-Star reliever Elroy Face has passed away at 97. He pitched parts of 16 seasons in the big leagues.

The Pirates used him mostly at the back of games at a time when many teams didn’t have set closers. Face led the National League in games finished in four of five seasons between 1958-62.

The save statistic didn’t come into use until 1969. Face was retroactively credited as the NL saves leader in three of those seasons, including MLB high marks in 1958 (20) and ’62 (28). He posted a sub-3.00 earned run average in four of those years, including a career-low 1.88 mark over 91 innings during the ’62 campaign.

Even if saves weren’t around at the time, Face’s accomplishments were appreciated during his career. He appeared on MVP ballots each season between 1958-60. He was an All-Star every year between 1959-61 and technically was selected to six All-Star Games, as MLB had both a midseason and postseason All-Star Game for a brief stretch during Face’s peak.

The Pirates have been around for more than 140 seasons. Face remains the franchise’s all-time leader in pitching appearances (802), games finished (547) and saves (186). He pitched nearly 1400 innings with a 3.48 ERA and recorded 877 strikeouts. Face topped 100 wins — including an astounding 18-1 record out of the bullpen in 1959 — and came up just shy of 200 saves overall, as he added five more during his final season in Montreal.

Nick Krall about a possible Reds reunion with Nick Castellanos
    Is a return likely?

It doesn't sound like it according to Reds President of Baseball Operations Nick Krall.

“I haven’t met with our guys,” Krall told the Cincinnati Enquirer. “I don’t know if we have a great fit for him with the guys that we have.”

I’m not in favor of trying a Castellanos reunion but I do like his chances of outproducing that gruesome twosome in 2026, personally.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Am I right in remembering that Elroy Face won his first 18 in a row in 1959? Was his forkball what we now commonly call the split?

I think you are correct about that winning streak. As for the forkball, I think they are technically different pitches held a bit differently but the pitch acts the same way.

Luis Rengifo to the Brewers. That's the backfill for Durbin. Rengifo was bad last year but his hard hit rate and LD rate were both better than in 2024 when he had a 115 OPS+. He had a high .339 BABIP in 2024 and a low .281 in 2025. His ISO was down significantly even with the high hard hit rate. His K/BB ratio went south in 2025. I'd expect something in the .675 to .700 OPS range for the Brewers, but as is tradition with Milwaukee, he'll probably OPS 1.000 against the Reds.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

    https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/704...tting-scandal/

Hours before a game against the Cincinnati Reds on May 18, 2025, Cleveland Guardians pitcher Emmanuel Clase received a text message.

“Throw a rock at the first rooster in today’s fight,” it read.

It may have read cryptically, but in a 29-page indictment unsealed Friday, prosecutors say Clase understood. It is one of the revelations included in court documents unsealed Friday that also, for the first time, allege Clase engaged in an illegal sports gambling scheme during the 2024 postseason.

“Yes, of course, that’s an easy toss to that rooster,” he responded. If there was any confusion, he followed up again later. He would throw it “low.”
