I read your post as blaming this on the fact there is no cap/floor and the reason the Reds couldn't sign him and others is because of the difference in money between Philly and Cincinnati.

I don't think it has anything to do with that, I used "Or" because I was suggesting my thought it is because the Reds have never spent money after giving out a large contract regardless of the MLB’s financial inequities.

How does your thought contrast with mine? I think they're both true

Well I think we are not totally in agreement on the dire need of a cap/floor. I don't think it is as much of an issue where I believe you do. I think the Reds are just cheap.

I am not saying you do not also think what I said was true was just giving a different take of the Reds are cheap it has nothing to do with MLB’s financial inequities.

No worries, my post wasn't meant as an attack or anything.

I got no problem with that. Leaving aside whether the team can or cannot afford more payroll I was assuming in a cap/floor world that the numbers would be such that Philly would have to cut payroll and the Reds would have to increase it. Such a world would have likely changed Kyle's attitude in assessing which team would surround him with more talent

Can the Braves get that contract money back, or they're stuck paying for him this year and next year?

Looks like he doesn't get paid this year, but I guess next year is still on their books?

The hits just keep on coming for them. I wonder if they'll tank the season and take the high draft picks.
Empathy is about standing in someone else's shoes, feeling with his or her heart, seeing with his or her eyes. Not only is empathy hard to outsource and automate, but it makes the world a better place.

I believe he forfeits the contract.

I'd be pouncing on the Braves with a Spencer Steer offer. Steer is better too.

the Team USA lineup is like you're playing a video game with a cheat code on to give you whatever players you want.

Not the way this franchise works. They actually try to win.

Acuna, Albies, Olson, Riley and Harris still gives them an excellent core in their lineup. If Baldwin avoids the sophomore slump, he’s solid as well, and grandson Yaz is more than fine as their 3rd OF.

Having Profar gone from the payroll ($15 million in 2026) means they can definitely take on salary if they need to deal for a bat. My guess is they instead opt to put that money towards any pitching that comes available, especially if they stay in the race until Kim comes back at SS later in the spring.

Edit: And they are going out on their own a la the Texas Rangers and taking game broadcasts in house for 2026. There’s a huge fan base but the tv/streaming money is never going to materialize in Year 1 if they raise the white flag before the season starts.

As a big proponent of going after Profar last year…oof. Misjudged that one. Such a shame.

Alvarado, Kepler and now Rojas. Three Phillies suspended for PED use in the last year.

    Players Out Of Options 2026
Every spring at MLBTR, we publish a list of players who are out of minor league options and cannot be sent to the minor leagues without first clearing outright waivers. Option status is particularly relevant as teams set their rosters prior to Opening Day. A lack of minor league options is often a key reason a certain player will make the roster over another who had a superior spring performance, and it’s a frequent factor in March trades.

The following is a list of all 40-man roster players throughout the league with fewer than five years of service time — players with more than five years of service can refuse an optional assignment — and no minor league options remaining. We’ve included players who have signed extensions or multi-year deals, even though they’re often less likely to be optioned.
