I don't think this was a good idea to bring a guy in to run the show who has no MLB experience. I love me some Tony Vitello but this is risky as hell. There's a reason this almost never happens

I mean we have seen that years of minor league coaching experience really makes a difference. Just look at Brian Price, Dave Miley, Jerry Narron, and RedsZone whipping boy David Bell those minor league years really put them over the edge.

I don't get the issue here, Vitello has been coaching in college since 2002. The job isn't rocket science, it is knowing how to manage people and knowing the game of baseball. I get it if there were guys in the SF minors that were hoping to get that job but I am not against going outside the box and trying something different.

I heard the national announcers chattering about this on Wednesday's game and they commented on how he was running all around during ST coaching batting practice then to fielding area then to the base running...and someone told him "couch, you're in the big leagues now. We have coaches to do this stuff..."

So this is what I mean that he doesn't get how things are done in MLB. I think a MLB team should have hired him to be a bench coach first. Of course Vitello would have to accept a big paycut for that but it'd be a reasonable price to pay in order to earn that job. Milwaukee's manager Pat Murphy had to cut his teeth before getting a managerial job as he transitioned to MLB from college. I think it's fair to say Vitello should too.

There's a learning curve to this even if you're familiar with the big leagues. First managerial job didn't go so well for guys like Francona and Joe Torre either

I was watching that same game and heard it as well. While I agree that they have coaches for that, I don't see anything wrong with him wanting to still go around and do and see all the things.

Just because it isn't done like that in MLB doesn't mean that it can't be done like that. I understand what you are saying and maybe he will adjust and change or maybe he will want to be hands on and still go to all the stations during ST and that is ok too.

If they go on a winning streak or end up in the playoffs I am sure we will then be hearing chatter about how he has brought his college tendencies to the big leagues and it is paying off.

He's going to have to learn to delegate. I suppose he probably will but it's just indicative of how he's clueless how things work in the big leagues

Cal Raleigh has already struck out 10x (in 15 ABs) this year. What the hell?

Ex-Red made baseball history, accomplishing a feat that only one other player has done in the last 75 years. Joey Wiemer reached base 10 consecutive times to start the 2026 season. He came over to the Reds in the Frankie Montas deal from the Brewers. Wiemer had all of 1 plate appearance in a Cincinnati uniform. For the season he has cracked 2 home runs and has posted this line: .889/.909/1.778/2.687 to go along with 2 home runs.

Verlander is getting pounded in his first start of 2026 for the Tigers. Lots of hard hit balls. He’s down 5-0 in the second. This reminds me of another former Tiger’s last years, Jack Morris

Weird move reported on the Brewers. They are working on an extension for SS Cooper Pratt. 21 yr old 6th round pick. Hasn’t really hit much (a little over .700 OPS) and just making it to AAA this year. Good plate discipline is all he really has shown. 8 years and 50 million with two club options.

Amazing, considering the fact that they were crowned World Champions in October, 2019.

The Mariners and top shortstop prospect Colt Emerson are in agreement on an eight-year contract extension, according to a report from Robert Murray of FanSided. The deal guarantees Emerson $95MM and includes a club option for a ninth season. That guarantee is a record for a player who has not yet made his MLB debut. The deal also includes a no-trade clause for the ACES client and can max out at over $130MM after incentives.

Sure would have been nice for the Reds to do something like this with Stewart or Elly like 4 years ago.
