Re: Reds General Discussion 2026, Part 2

The broadcast did just shed light on the Marte situation. He was dogging it during the spring and is in the dog house. Tito had to deal with Manny and those Sox teams so I trust his judgment on these things.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

If he wants to help the team win, he should retire.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

Empathy is about standing in someone else's shoes, feeling with his or her heart, seeing with his or her eyes. Not only is empathy hard to outsource and automate, but it makes the world a better place.

So after this game 6 of the 9 starters in today's lineup had BAs under the Mendoza line and only one was over .250 but they are still are 8-3. These are not the Reds of the Aughts.

True but MLB has changed since then too. It’s much more pitching dominant

Cincinnati Reds Win 5th Straight After Late Rally To Beat Marlins
If anyone thought all those early-seasons wins with so few early-season runs was some kind of mirage or magic trick, get a load of what the Cincinnati Reds pulled out of their ballcaps against the Miami in Game 11.

Throttled on two hits by Miami Marlins ace Sandy Alcantara for 8 1/3 innings, the Reds rallied in the ninth to tie, then beat up the Marlins bullpen for four in the 10th – Matt McLain delivering the big blow with a bases-loaded double off the wall – for the unlikeliest victory in a fortnight full of them for this team.

And don't look now, but the Reds are in first place, tied with the Milwaukee Brewers atop the National League Central, with a mere 151 games to play.

Really noticed his hustle tonight on a few plays both on bases and on defense

Tonight and tomorrow Marlins are throwing RHP with reverse splits. Tomorrow afternoon’s pitcher, Max Meyer, is especially prone to RHH. Lifetime RHH batting .911 OPS against him.

If Reds plan to rest some guys with a night game followed by a day game — I’d make sure the main RHHs are in the lineup tomorrow afternoon against Meyer.

We normally agree on a lot but I guess my question here is do you think the team would be 11-0 without him instead of 8-3.

I guess I am not seeing Barry Bonds on the bench which is what it would take to replace Hayes and bring the offense up enough to make a difference. The offense as a whole is bad and there isn't one guy on this team that is making up for the team as a whole. The team has been excellent on defense and having solid play at 3B is a part of that which helps the pitchers get out of innings faster and not make the anemic offense have to score a ton of runs.

Of all the issues with this team I really think that Hayes is pretty low on the list.

Since the start of the 2024 season:

    Lowe 108 OPS+
    Hayes 61 OPS+

Even replacing Hayes with a league average hitter is like replacing Steer with and MVP type hitter, and yeah, that would help the lineup.

The team is 8-3, do you think playing Lowe makes them 11-0? I could see the arguments if they were 3-8 but currently the team is winning with solid pitching and defense which is exactly what they built the team to be.
