I will go one better. McLain is a better defender at 2b than Hayes is at 3B currently . I have saw enough balls get by Hayes this year to know he has taken a step back the first month defensively.

Friedl, Steer, Stephenson, Hinds and McLain all on base twice today. The Reds score 7 runs. Coincidence? I don't think so.

That’s still does not designate him a good player. His defense is not Hayes at 2B either. Even if it was a hitter that has OPS under .600 is not a good player. Just average. He’s pretty close to an auto out. He’s not going to walk like Eddie Joost who could walk about 120-130 times and hit for power too. He’s not even hitting doubles.

He has a .337 OBP. That's above average, not an auto out.

Right now through 22 games only just this season. McLain is absolutely a better defender at 2B than Hayes is at 3B. I have saw several balls get past Hayes this year that he fielded in the past.
That might change as the season goes on.

As long as they have the Twins fielders out there also.

Again. Happy that you are his number 1 fan. An OPS under 600 is not good. Even with that OBP. He should not be hitting hire than 7th. He’d be a good 9th hitter with Elly. Like Ohtani batting lead off for the Dodgers and then Sal hitting 2nd trying to drive him in when he does get on base. Even in the 60s hitters like Mazeroski and Bobby Richardson could OPS just over 600.

Wow! I missed a lot hitting the little white ball around, but did get to see TJ and Reces big hits!

    Gotta love this teams heart!

It would be great if Rece started smacking the ball regularly. A thread could be started titled, "Rece's Pieces".

That would be great. And I think Matt will be over 600 and closer to 700 OPS as the year goes on. For now though an OPS under 600. Even in this day of tough pitching. That’s not good. Average at best player even with his D
