From my observations with Andrew and his approach to pitching, it was similar to Tom Glavine/Greg Maddux. Those guys would try and figure out where the umpires strike zone was at the beginning of the game. He would then slowly nibble the corners of those zones to slowly move it further out to see what he'd get away with. Obviously, ABS would have an impact with that.

Given this team's numbers, they have a damn impressive record. Kudos to Francona for getting this many wins out of this group
Would the Angels be open to trading Reid Detmers and Sam Bachman. Both have a couple of years left before FA.
Petty. Rodriguez. Throw in a bunch of bodies beacuse the Angels are not that smart either. Beacuse of their owner. Benson. Matt. All those 4? Take your chances with Arroyo at SS and Stewart on 2B. Then Arroyo back to 2nd when Eloy comes back. If not Matt then what else you throw in.
The Reds have a bunch of high velo guys that are getting killed by ABS and top of the zone strikes. And I don't mean by ABS challenges. I think ABS has affected umpire calls, for the better. I do not think the high strike is called as much because it seems to get overturned more. Now this is anecdotal, as I have tried to make sense of Savant's tracking and filtering. I'm a web developer and database admin and... yeah, it might be time for me to retire. woof.
But based on what I have seen, pitchers have lost the top of the zone on hard stuff. And when you challenge has become a strategy. (I have no doubt it will be a part of a catcher's WAR in the very near future)
I think they need guys with more lateral movement. I think exaggerated framing on strikes can be a huge weapon in deceiving the hitter.
I've had a very busy week. Haven't watched a game since last weekend. I did check the box scores. I think most of us liked the pen going into the season. Not great, and most wanted a different closer, but thought the 9th had options in Santillan, Phillips, and Ashcraft. Phillips is in the minors, Ashcraft is out. Santillan has been largely ineffective after a huge workload last year. Injuries have ravaged the entire pitching staff. Over the last 7 days, the Reds have walked 35 batters. I think that can be considered a lot.
I'm not a blow-it-up guy. IMO, it is too soon anyway. But they need a pitcher that can keep guys off the bases other than Burns. Lowder needs a few more games. In May, Abbott and Burns were fantastic from the rotation. Everyone else was terrible. In the Pen, it was Moll and Johnson only. Everyone else was terrible.
I never call for a firing. But if I can see this, the Reds FO can too. DJ is likely on a hot seat, warranted or not. Coaches get way too much credit and blame for performance.

I think DJ being on the hot seat is definitely warranted.
What would you say.....ya do here?
Tom Servo (Yesterday)
I think it is expected more than warranted. The pitching wasn't bad last year. I don't think he's changed as much as ABS has changed the game. I'm not certain he's adapted.
Speaking of ABS. Is it me or does Sal Stewart think every called strike is a ball?
Dubito Ergo Cogito Ergo Sum.
They should only use Will as a PH. 4 for 11 with 2 HR. 3 RBI.
