    2019 Oakland Raiders

It's a 3-Ring Circus in Oakland right now, and that's worthy of it's own thread. Rarely does a day go by when something unusual is happening there. With "Hard Knocks" involved, there should be plenty to talk about.

    Today's news of the weird:

    From Rotoworld with Rotoworld comments:

A source with knowledge of the situation tells NBC's Chris Simms that Antonio Brown is dealing with frostbitten feet after "entering a cryotherapy machine without the proper footwear."

Well that's a new one. Brown had previously been described as dealing with "blisters." Speaking Tuesday, coach Jon Gruden would only say the team was "gathering information." It's a ridiculous injury but hardly a laughing matter. Brown's status for the remainder of camp should be considered up in the air.

    Re: 2019 Oakland Raiders

    From Rotoworld with Rotoworld comments:

Raiders RG Gabe Jackson was carted from Thursday's joint practice against the Rams with a leg injury.

Speaking afterward, coach Jon Gruden admitted "concern." Jackson couldn't put any pressure on one of his legs before he was loaded onto the cart. Denver Kirkland and Jordan Devey rotated in his absence. Jackson is one of the annual linchpins of the Raiders' revamped line. Although he's not a star, he would be a major loss.

    @AdamSchefter

And now this: Raiders’ WR Antonio Brown has told team officials that, unless he gets to wear his old helmet, he will not play football again, per league sources.

    And more....

    Re: 2019 Oakland Raiders

    Rotoworld's comments:

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Antonio Brown has told the Raiders he will "not play football again" if the league does not allow him to wear his preferred helmet.

Brown has reportedly played hooky from the team since late last week. It was believed he had left to seek a second opinion on his injured feet (he's dealing with severe frostbite from a cryotherapy mishap in France), but apparently the real reason for his absence is that Brown is unhappy over the league's new helmet requirements, a sticking point that has led to a "disconnect" between AB and his bewildered teammates. According to Schefter, Brown feels other helmets impede his vision and has flatly rejected any of the alternatives the Raiders have offered him. The seven-time Pro Bowler filed a grievance over the league's new helmet policy—which was heard during a two-hour phone call on Friday—with a resolution likely coming next week. Brown is a ticking time bomb right now.

According to Sports Illustrated's Michael Silver, Antonio Brown's "vocal" frustration over the league's new helmet rules has "contributed to a disconnect" with the Raiders.

Silver's thread is worth reading in its entirety. Brown, who flamed out of Pittsburgh in spectacular fashion last season, has reportedly been a similar headache since arriving in Oakland, lashing out over the league's new helmet requirements. Of the 32 players required to change helmets this year including Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady, only Brown has refused to comply, going as far as to repaint his old helmet in hopes that the Raiders wouldn't notice (spoiler: it didn't work). One member of the Raiders organization called Brown's continued resistance "honestly the most insane thing I've ever heard" while another noted that AB "hasn't been here for awhile, and no one knows where he's at." Silver adds that Brown has also ruffled feathers by barely paying attention in team meetings, often showing up late while spending most of the time glued to his phone. The Raiders may be feeling buyer's remorse after seeing some of Brown's recent antics.

If I am the Raiders I would try and void his contract due to the cryochamber situation...all good receivers eventually take a ride down crazy town.
If you have a losing record at Reds games, please stop going.

And wasn’t the helmet ruling part f an agreement with the Player’s Association? Shouldn’t the Union be enforcing it too?

The NFL's helmet rules are sort of bizarre.

The union is not in the enforcement business. That is the league office. I'm sure the union can ask him to wear the new helmet but if he doesn't what are they going to do? I loved the part about painting his old helmet though.

Yes. God forbid that after years of criticism about not caring about player safety they actually make players wear safer helmets. Those monsters.

There is no such thing as a safer helmet. Once again, that's the NFL convincing those who haven't looked into the facts that there is no helmet that prevents the damage caused from the brain wacking itself against the skull repeatedly from sudden stops, which is what the NFL has been trying to hide now for 30 years, and what is causing all of the damage to people who play football and soccer and boxing.

A helmet contributes to damage to the brain though as it increases the intensity of the hit by the player delivering the blow with the helmet. The only thing a helmet prevents is cracking of the skull and swelling on the exterior of the skull.

Brown should be able to wear the helmet he wants to wear in this case.

The NFL doesn't care about his safety.

Can you please provide a source on your statement that there is no such thing as a safer helmet?

I think you should show your work with that kind of absolute statement.

I just find it hard to believe the NFL suddenly cares, my guess is there is a financial benefit to the league forcing everyone to a new style.

AB hasn't been the same since Burfict lit him up.

And Burfict hasn't been the same since JuJu lit him up the following season.

Now both over-concussed casualties from that bitter rivalry are together again, mere shells of their former selves.

AB had 100 receptions, 1300 yards, and 15 TDs last season.
