I know the stats say the Reds bullpen is pretty good, and it is. But the Reds starters don't go deep in games and they use all of their relievers, so even one weak link in the pen is a problem. I still think another late inning reliever is needed while the most iffy guys are pushed off the roster. The Reds need 7 guys who fall on the scale between pretty good and dominant for this staff to work as constructed. Even one guy who is below average is a problem. I still think the Reds should be looking to add a significant arm for the pen (rotation too). I know many don't agree, but if post-season is the goal, the standard needs to be raised IMO.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

I agree. I think there are usage issues - and a few personnel issues - with the bullpen.

Reds have the most relief appearances in MLB. Fine, but then they need to keep upgrading the relievers and also must know their tendencies thoroughly.

Alex Wood would be a nice lefty to have.
BTW the did the Dodgers ship all of their dead weight off to Cincy?
Farmer is the only productive guy we got in that deal.

I woke up today hoping I would find Wandy Peralta had been released. After the more recent Wandyesque performances, I just can't comprehend why the front office doesn't jettison him immediately. They must worry about the pennies they will lose if they do.

Never give a good pitcher too many runs to work with... for some reason it affects their psyche

Peralta had an outstanding April which is why he's still on the roster. http://www.espn.com/mlb/player/gamel.../wandy-peralta In April he gave up 1 run and 5 hits over 8.1 innings. His splits tell the story of 2 different guys. Tough telling what he'll be next month.
I did notice yesterday his breaking pitches were breaking, but all in the wrong direction. Instead of tailing away from the zone they drifted right over the plate. One pitch in particular, a called strke BTW started in down on the knees of the batter and ended up as close to the center of the plate as it could get.. Luckily for him at the time the batter didn't swing, but the next pitch however was a different story. He swung and sent it over the fence.

To answer the original question, the team has 6 blown saves, which is exactly the league average.

Are blown saves the same as blowing huge leads? I can handle an occasional loss in the 9th with the other team scoring 2 to win by 1. But they blew a 7-0 lead, 4-0 lead, and 5-0 lead all in recent memory.

    These aren't huge leads.

At least we have huge leads to blow. When the season began we struggled to score at all.

    Improvement, Baby!
