Harris and Trevino were a great battery. Almost as good as 83 opening day LFer Jeff Jones.

1969 Crosley Field 3 years old. Sat in upper deck 1B side. Remember going and the beautiful green grass, but not much else.

Jones didn't hold a candle to 1982 Opening Day LF Clint Hurdle.

Yeah, it was kind of a shock. Outside Crosely, it felt like you were in a dirty, nasty industrial area, and entering an industrial building and then you walk down those aisles and the colors of the grass and the seats and park were like entering a whole other beautiful world.

Not sure of the date, but it was right after Riverfront opened. I remember cranes outside the ballpark as the exterior still needed to be completed. It was a Sunday afternoon game, I think against Pirates. I don't remember much, but I do remember still my first sight of the green Astroturf.
I've been to dinner at Jimmy Buffet's house, and I've eaten it at a homeless shelter. And there's great joy and harrowing terror to be found in both places.

Became a Reds fan when I was a wee lad growing up here in rural Mississippi way back in the late-70's. Everybody knew me throughout school as the fanatical Reds fan. I'll see old classmates today, and they'll ask me if I still love the Reds. Didn't get to attend my first Reds game and MLB game until I was 27 in July of 1999. It was an 8-5 Reds win over the Cardinals in Busch Stadium II. Have since been to many Reds games in Atlanta and St. Louis. Have yet to make it to a game at GABP.

1974–I was 7. I’m pretty sure it was versus the Cubs (at Riverfront). All I remember is that it was hot, crowded, and LOUD.

1987- I was 5. It was against the Dodgers in Riverfront. Couldn't tell you anything about the game other than we probably left in the 7th inning to beat the traffic and I got to see my hero, Barry Larkin (we both played SS).
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

My 1th birthday, April 27, 1951 at Forbes Field, Pittsburgh -- one of my WWII uncles drove us there from Maryland.
Ewell Blackwell started, Joe Adcock hit a home run, as did Grady Hatton (his, inside-the-park, I think).
Young Gus Bell (PIRATE right fielder then) had a double and two singles.

Incidentally, I was such a Gus Bell fan that when I watched a televised game during the years when his son, Buddy, was a Red, when Buddy would bat I would watch the screen using a hand mirror.
The image from the TV screen of the right-handed hitting younger Bell, reflected to my eye, allowed me to imagine that I again was seeing his left-handed hitting dad.

Actually, now that I think about it, I think Jeff Jones started in RF on Opening Day in 1983. I'm almost certain Gary Redus started in LF.

Correct. Jones was in RF and was going to be the next big thing. Which of course followed the failure from the previous year, Paul Householder, as the next big thing.
